Hi Girls
My DD has been teething shockingly since this morning, every nappy has been pooey we can see the tooth it's nearly through...
What we need help is her bum...
It is red raw  and she's currently :hissy: about it, her bum has got like burns on it and is bleeding and weeping, we have just been giving her a couple of hours of nappy free time, is this the right thing to do???
We have baby neurofan or brauers teething relief DP and I are stuck  should we give her the teething relief for her teeth or should we give her the neurofan so that her bum doesn't hurt, the poor thing is having the most acidic pooes and has lots of watery puss coming out too.......:barf:
She doesn't want to chew on anything we have tried frozen dummies, and ice in the mesh feeder, we are even having trouble getting her to have her bottles cause her gums are hurting her so much....so we are at a lost also with that....
Also we are wanting to go with cloth nappies tonight, we have the cloth squares we just don't know how to make them big enough for her and how they will hold her poo and wee as we don't want the sposies rubbing against her bum....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.:rain:

i remember when coop was teething really badly his poor little tooshie was red raw. i gave him as much nappy free time as possible and instead of using a cream for his tooshie, i used cornflour and still do if its looking a bit red. another thing that might help is using bi card soda in the bath. i have used it many times and it seems to help as well. for her gums, we used bonjela and also one called something like sm gell3000. the sm gel actually numbs the gums(and it works wonders esp when i had trouble with my wisdom teeth)
thats all i can really think of right now but if i think of anything else, i will let you know.

Thanks Coopmum - we were going to have a bath with her soon so will definitely put bicarb and try the cornflour!
Can only offer some suggestiond for part of your post...
When teething, the pharmacist reccommended Dactozin for DD's red behind - it has an antifungal in it which should definitely sort out the weeping...and keep with the nappy free time. Bicarb will definitely relieve
Neurophan should give her some relief for her teeth as well if you only want to give her one...though (and please please please don't do so just on my suggestion) I would imagine it would be okay to give her both as the Bruers is all natural, so shouldn't overdose her on anything...
My DD used to suck on a wet facecloth (rather than ice) - not as intense I suppose
And with the nappies...I'd nearly stick at the disposables for tonight (especially being first time you've used them)....they'll draw moisture away from her skin a lot better which should cause less irritation (though change her each time you feed/whatever so the urine's not sitting on her too long). If you do want to go cloth, just type in 'nappy folds' or something similar and you should find plenty of diagrams

the bicarb makes the skin nice and soft as well, well it did with my DS. i dont put wash in either when i use the bi carb.
:hugs: to your little girl! Poor thing it sounds awful! Bum free time in the morning sun would be good for healing:yes:. DS got a little rash when he was teething he got 6 teeth in one month and it was terrible but not the way you describe it must be awful for the poor little thing. Nappy free time is a winner too, if it doesnt get any better though I would be having a quick trip to the GP, but I'm a worry wort so go with your gut:D

Thanks girls, have tried the wet facewasher no luck. I might call nurse on call if she doesnt get better soon to see if i can give the neurofan and teething relief together! Will definitely be taking her to the gp if it doesnt get better, its not so much the teeth that worry me just her poor little bright red bum....

It is horrible when this happens, comes on so suddenly too.
With DD we got an antifungal cream from the chemist as mentioned by a PP, just explain the symptoms and I'm sure they'll help you out. I also used lots of barrier cream so his bottom was easier to wipe clean as he was also pooing alot and would scream when you tried to clean him up. A nice bath will clean things up and the cornflour suggested by coopmum sounded like a good idea too, I'll be remebering that one for next time. Would absorb moisture well. Hope it clears soon!:)

I also second Dactozin for the red raw bum. Don't know about teething rash, DS has never had them, but helped heaps when DS had gastro and bum was sooo red and weepy.
As for pain relief for the gums, we use Bonjela either on its own or in combination with Panadol. DS has never been big on sucking/chewing anything iced, but he loves to chew on a toothbrush when his gums are really sore.
Calendula for the bottom....is absolutely magic stuff....either that or Paw paw but the calendula clears it up faster than anything I have ever seen :hugs:

Thanks girls, unfortunately being where we are I can't get to a chemist till tomorrow, so we have gone for the cornflour tonight! I hope it gets better for her, she loved her bath and is now having a sleep on DPs chest, :fingerscrossed: she has a big sleep tonight as we didn't get much last night (our friend borrowed our bonjela and panadol as her teething didn't really kick in till 2am this morning, always happens )

We have the same prob with DD when she's teething, the wee & poo just burns her really badly. The only thing that works for her is Brauer's Nappy Rash cream, then put Herron Zinc & Castor oil over that to provide a barrier then Gaia baby powder over the top to keep the creams there & it cuts down the rubbing of bub's bottom & the nappy. For her shower/bath we use the Gaia baby bath as it's really gentle on her skin. My DD's nappy rash takes a few days to get better, but I can tell as soon as I use the creams & powder on her it's starting to heal.
Do you have any microfleece liners? If you still want to use the disposables you can use the liners, they will help to wick away the moisture. What covers are you using for the cloth? Wool soakers are good because when they're lanolised they're waterproof and still breathable which is really good when bub's has nappy rash.

No we don't have any liners :( Only the covers and the actually cloth squares.
Just made me feel like such a bad mum the way her bum was, and seeing her in so much pain when she pooed and weed

Oh don't feel like a bad Mum, I know it's awful to see them in pain but as far as I know there is nothing you can do to stop it.
If there is a way to avoid it I'd be keen to know:yes:
Hope you get some sleep tonight, and if you have some barrier cream of any brand I'd use lots of that for the time being.
Avoid wipes and use face washers or even during this time... and im sure more to come (well in my experiences) I bought some chux wipes and used water and sorbolene cream to cleanse the sore areas.... (Treat them as you do cloth nappies)
I REALLY RECOMMEND using Paw Paw ointment it is just amazing stuff and my pot of liquid gold (around $10 for a tub) goes along way and lasts forever.... Barrier cream should be avoided as it doesn't allow the skin to breath and can worsen the area and although Paw Paw is deemed a barrier cream it works without heating up the area which most barrier creams do.... When she is having a teething bout next time or when she has healed use the paw paw in between changes and this aids as a prevention also.... Worked for me hun....
All the best.... sorry for your poor little bubba...
