do you know about this stuff.. do you even think about it..
do you care.. & why/why not?
this is just the latest animal-rights atrocity i have come across.. i dont actually go looking for this stuff anymore, but i have alot of contacts [online] who i receive links from & this just came through..
tho very upsetting, it [I]doesnt contain any extreme graphic or gore etc...
http://www.gatewaytohell.net/
i know & believe in the saying 'to help get over your own pain/suffering, go out & help others worse off'... well there is nothing much in the real world i can do to be helpful in my life at the moment, but i can definitely help by taking the time to start conversation/awareness about this ever-increasing abuse of innocent creatures for both greed &/or arrogance & ignorance.
im happy for this to become an ongoing animal rights thread open for any discussion related..

Cowardice asks the question - is it safe?
Expediency asks the question - is it politic?
Vanity asks the question - is it popular?
But conscience asks the question - is it right?
And there comes a time
when one must take a position that is neither safe,
nor politic,
nor popular;
but
one must take it because it is right.

Im not going to pretend to be high and mighty about this one...
I love my meat, have leather shoes etc etc etc
But I do think that animals should be treated with dignity...If they are to be killed for our needs then it should be done quickly and with respect to the animal (IYKWIM!)
If they are to be used for the production of goods (eggs, wool, etc etc) then once again, they should be respected for the goods that they are providing us
I will also admit that I try not to go looking for examples of atrocities against animals, but the latest doco's on puppy mills have saddened me...as did Jamie Oliver's doco on chickens.
We try to buy products made by animal rights conscious people (free range eggs, chickens, wouldnt buy a puppy from a pet shop etc etc) but I think the government should do a hell of a lot more to legislate on the treatment of animals.

"Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals,
and the answer is: "Because the animals are like us."
Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals,
and the answer is: "Because the animals are not like us."
Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction."
~Charles R. Magel
Animals just like humans, are capable of feeling and experiencing the same emotions we do such as pain, suffering, joy, pleasure, love, loneliness and sadness; and our relationship with them should be humane.
We should have the ability to live in peace and harmony with a species that does not fully share the same intellectual capacity as us.

We don't NEED meat or animal products though so the pain and suffering they undergo is completely unneccessary.

couldn't agree more!

I have just watched the video "Earthlings" on Youtube.
It is about man's dependence on Animals
((for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research))
There are 3 parts to it and is quite long (3x 30 mins) but definitely worth the watch.
**WARNING**
It is EXTREMELY graphic.
Even if you don't 'watch it" at least listen to it.(Several parts I had to turn away)

hi sharoo.
i agree earthlings is a good coverage for the whole issue at large.. but
just want to warn you, you may want to take the link out because of the graphic nature.. im pretty sure its against BH policy rules & you may get an 'infringement' [ive been done before]..
if you just put the names of things as you did & where you found it... often that will get to a few people..
theres hundreds i would love to link to, but they would call the BH police i think:p.. so im trying to be more tame [tying my hands behind my back!] & get the discussion & differing peoples opinion & suggestion..
its great to hear/see it put out into the mainstream..;)
Isn't man an amazing animal?...
He kills wildlife - birds, kangaroos, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice, foxes and dingoes - by the million in order to protect his domestic animals and their feed. Then
he kills domestic animals by the billion and eats them. This in turn
kills man by the millions, because
eating all those animals leads to degenerative - and fatal - health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, and cancer. So then
man tortures and kills millions more animals to look for cures for these diseases. Elsewhere,
millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals. Meanwhile,
some people are dying of sad laughter at the absurdity of man,
who kills so easily and so violently, and once a year, sends out cards praying for Peace on Earth.

I am going to Protest!
The Lennon Brothers circus is coming to my area on the 5th- 9th November and I plan to organise or join a protest against their Animal Exploitation.
Anyone got any tips or good ideas for signs?
First I am going to send letters to the Newsagents who are selling the tickets, does anyone know what I should say to sound serious? I suck at wording things like that!
What i hate is when people go out and kill sharks and crocidiles etc because they attacked somone. well IMO they were there first, people know that if they are stupid enought to swim there etc then they know there is a chance they shoud be attacked. People then shouldnt go on a hunting spree just to find that animal and kill them. All the animal sees is food it doesnt know any different.
Hope that made sense!

While animal rights is not one of my main soapbox issues, I do believe that how we treat animals in general is a reflection of our true nature.
I hate the conditions in which intensively farmed animals are kept. I hate the fact that our native animals are not treated with more respect. I am very much anti-whaling. I am appalled at the conditions/methods used to extract animal based ingredients for some human consumption items such as medicines, food and drink products and aphrodisiacs.
I would never turn a blind eye to animal abuses, but I am not an animal activist.

I hate seeing animals being treated as animals. The way I see it A family pet is Just that a family member. I hate seeing the family dog being tied up in the back yard, left alone or being abused.
