When do you think a kid should be sitting at the table for a whole meal?

We're pretty lax with dd1 at the moment - if she wants to get down, she gets down (which is generally "as soon as she's got a big mouthful to chew") but the rules are that then we're allowed to eat her food, which often brings her running right back :)

Is it worth making an issue over now, or wait till a bit later when she's got more capacity to sit still for more than 30 seconds at a time

My DD's have both been taught from the first day they started eating that you stay put until you are finished no matter where you are sitting.

DD1 has been sitting at her own little table since about 15 months and from about 3 she has sat at the dining table with us. DD2 has her meals in her highchair but I have been giving her the occassional meal at the little table while her sister is having lunch or something like that and she is pretty good but then she does like her food.....

DS used to sit at his little table and DH and I on the couch...then DS started taking over an hour to finish his dinner so I decided that we would all start sitting at the table and he actually eats in a reasonable ammount of time now :)
I won't be making the same mistakes with DD, we will eat at the table every night and eating in the lounge room will be for nights we have take away...which has not been that often lately.
