Hi how are we all? Thought I would start a thread for all us offshore mummy's. All the threads seem to be about mine sites. My hubby works 3 on/ 3 off up off Karratha, he's been doing it for about a year now it has gone so quick, we have 3 kiddies and we do love the 3 weeks off when he's home. Talk soon Maisymum :flowerz:

Hi Maisymum! My dp has been working up that way, somewhere near Exmouth. He's worked away for many years now, but maybe around 18mths working offshore; equal time. (I really can't remember.... isn't that terrible!)
We have a nearly 4yo who is usually a delight and a little 18mth old who is much more than a handful lol.
Got to love that 3 weeks :)
Even more, he is actually starting a new job on an FPSO with a 3 on 3 off 3 on 6 off roster which will be amazing!
How do you manage while your dh is away? How old are your children?

Hi Ceaser, Yes hubby's been working away for a year now, time does go so fast we said we would do it for 2 yrs but it will probably be more likely 4 years. The kids are fine about it, i was so worried when he started i thought it would really effect them but after a couple of hitches their fine. They are so looking forward for him being home in the school holidays i think they are already talking about the movies and Royal Show so we will just have to see. Enjoy your time with hubby. Talk soon. MM xx

Hi All .........Well i'm feeling a little lost today, Hubby has gone again for another 3 weeks it seems so far away, i hope the time goes quick!............I will be kept busy with a sick 18 month old he has had a very bad reaction to some antibiotics he was on last week for an ear infection, PMH said it was one of the worst they had seen, so just back from the GP ( DS has now got Gastro as well ) and he told me it can take from 3-6 weeks to get over it...... "OMG".......... i'm going to be a wreck by the time hubby is home!

Had another scan yesterday ( 8 1/2 weeks ) all is looking good so we are both happy with that!

Hope all is well with everyone else......MM xx

Hi!
I'm sure your not lol! THough dh is probably home by now and you may not read this for another 3 weeks lol.
Mine has been home for what seems like an eterrrrrrrrrniiiitttyyyyyyyy.... We are driving each other mad lol.
Glad all went well with your scan :) Thats great news!
hope you're getting in some rest w hile he's home... we tend to get very frantic everytime dp is home - the only time he relaxes is when we are on holidays!
How's your little one? hopefully all good by now. Ear infections are horrid - we spent the last two years with pretty mudch constant tonsillitis and ear infections, but since ds1 had his tonsils out - both boys have been well  Antibiotic reactions are really frightening too - you poor thing! was it a rash only or was his breathing etc affected? why do these things happen when dh's are away?????????????????????????????

Anyhow, hope you haven't been too lonely, i don't really get on here that much - especially when he is home iykwim.

take it easy

Hi MM, four weeks home is great I love it but the time just flies, every second year he is away for Christmas, he was away last year so we had Christmas in late November with him for our boys. He goes again on Tuesday and misses out on New Years with us again, two years in a row now...... I don't mind that so much as him missing the birthdays, that is something I don't think I'll ever comfortable with! But such is life with our world.

Hope you had a lovely Christmas with your man home. Talk soon.

Hi girls

Just joined bubhub, Can't sleep coming off night shift and bored as.

My hubby does 2 and 2 on the rankin, I think this is the best of the rosters. he has worked away for as long as we have known eachother and then some! It is all we know. I don't think we could cope if he was working in Perth haha.

I havent read the whole thread, but I am sure I will get to know you all in time.

I have 2 kids ages 4 and 2. I saw some mention of Xmas rosters, my DH has been lucky to score holidays for the times he is meant to work Xmas, although with my job I often have to work it myself. haha. But it is different coming home at the end of the day.

My dad did some FIFO when I was growing up, and DH dad also does 4 weeks on 4 off somewhere in the ocean off Indonesia. DH sister also works away in New Caledonia. It is all pretty normal for our family I guess. A cousin has also started working overseas. Our kids must think everyone does this. hehe. It did take them some time to figure out that I came home after work and didn't need to take a plane and helicopter to get there.

I really should TRY to get some shut eye. Look forward to chatting.

Take Care

We have a 7week old dd and DP has just been home studying up untill now. With his current international company he will be doing 3months on 2 off, so thats why hes looking for something closer to home and maybe only 6on/6off.
Im glad id found this thread. Its great to know theres other mums out there that i can talk to who are in the same situation.

Hi girls. Hope you don't mind me posting here. I'm not a mummy yet - we are TTC#1. My DH works on various pipe-lay barges and has done for about 6 years. He's only been home for 2 xmas' in that time. He is 28 on/14 off, working off Karratha at the moment. So far TTC is proving quite difficult as DH hasn't been here when I've ovulated since Feb. I think the next time our cycles collide is June :dizzy:!! How did you all go TTC? I guess we could wait until the job finishes (whenever that is - it always changes and will probably be toward the end of the year), but I'm turning 33 soon, so it is definitely time to get started.

I do get down a bit about DH being away, but I am so used to it now. I don't let him know I do though ;). I usually try to do something positive while he's away like go on a health kick, exercise more, etc. I'm much less tempted when he's not here. Do feel like my life is on hold for a month and then on overdrive for 2 weeks. We always miss out on parties, and especially weddings etc, but I've attended a couple on my own. I think DH wants to quit when I'm pg or definitely when we have a child. I don't know how we will go financially, I think he will find it hard. I'm used to living simply, but he is definitely NOT.

Thanks for listening :flowerz:

Jac7 - did your DH get the job with trident?

Im enjoying time with DH atm. Arrived home at Easter - finally. Due back at work middle of June.

pdogsmum - We have decided to TTC #3, have recently gone off pill so am waiting to see how long my cycle will be and if I ovulated. It makes it a little tricky TTC when DH is away. We were lucky we fell straight away with DD, DS took a little longer. Good luck (its nearly June!!) Totally understand I am soooo much better at going to the gym and eating healthy when Dh is away.

Hi everyone,

My husband has just started on a rig. 3 weeks on, 3 off. He's home tomorrow!

We have a 4 year old daughter and i'm 21 weeks pregnant. It's been pretty tough for my DD. She has really missed DH and has chucked major tantrums every afternoon when we've been out, and not wanting to sleep until 11pm! SUCKS......I hope it gets easier!!

The first week he was away DD and I spent it crying! Since then though, it has been a lot easier. Hooray. Looking forward to feeling the balance between DH being home for 3 weeks and off for 3 weeks. :)

We have a DD 2.5....DS 16mths and number three due on 29.12.09....

Can't wait to chat to some of you...my husband left on Saturday:( Always hard the first week and Im soooo exhausted with this pregnancy:(

Hi Maisysmum...
Ohhh last night at home:( Your lucky you live in the West though...my husband would have already gone:( Which rig is your husband on? My husband has been working in the Maritime Industry for over 15yrs and offshore for about 10years I guess...he has worked off Karratha soooo often that Ive often thought we should move there...not that it makes a differance when they are gone they are gone...:( Our husband might know each other...seems to me they are worse than women and know everyone lol..

Not sure how you do it with FOUR!!! Maybe you can give me some tips because Im struggling with two and one on the way....do you have family around to help?? We dont so we are contemplating selling up and moving soon to be close to his parents who have just retired (his father from the sea too and his BIL works at sea too)

Great to catch up...Im always on MSN if you ever wanna chat...thats how I communicate with DH when he is away esp since he has been in China!

OMG.....it's almost Mummy time:) DH on the phone singing songs to my 2.5yr old...she stays up late when Daddy is at work to get her songs... Mummy doesnt do them right...and its a good thing because she woke up her brother screaming just before he rung...he's finally back to sleep...

Your house must be extremely hectic now with a 3mth old and three others too!

I had problems with my last too and DH had to fly home early and lucky cause he was born only a few days after he arrived home...induced though...Im hoping for a smooth pregnancy this time:) Unfortunately he is having to use his accrued leave to swap onto the new roster...and until they get their EBA over the line he doesnt know if they will give him Parental leave... so at the moment he is only rostered off for his 6wk break which falls three weeks before baby is due and three after:( Hopefully they will work something out before then though...

We live in QLD..halfway btwn Gold Coast and Brisbane...this could change really soon though lol

Does your husband do things like that...come home and focus on something and it gets bigger than ben hur until you end up with a new car...moving to a new home...or our latest is a Go-Kart or Motorbike (neither which he is getting anytime soon lol)

Im on Facebook....

Glad im not the only one who enjoys the first couple of weeks that my partners away hahahaha!! He does 4 on and 4 off, and i do miss him while he's away, but the first couple of weeks is really nice, a chance to do 'my' things, as when he's home i make sure the focus is on him and our baby, so that he's not missing out on anything. I always feel bad when he's away if he misses out on anything (like the start of crawling etc). I make little video's on my mobile of our baby doing things and send them to him, i think it makes it a little easier for him to be away from us.
Our girl is only 8 months old, but when we pick him up from the airport each time he flies home, she recognises him straight away and puts her arms out instantly for him.

Hi gals,
My hubby works offshore 3 on 3 off. We have a 11 month old and another one on the way in 4 months. Soon 2 under two. Currently I am packing so we can move house. It's damn hard doing it on your own especially with a little one constantly pulling at your leg to be picked up. My back ain't coping too well with the lifting either!
The hardest thing I am finding is those days when I have had such a crap time of things and my mood is rather poor and DH phones up (usually in the evening after he has had a hard 12 hours working). Usually I have little more to do than complain. I hate doing it but I don't have anyone else to express my woes to and I am in such a crap mood by then my woes are the only things on my mind (aside from feeding DS and getting him to bed finally). I love being a mum but I hope DS isn't getting too traumatised by having a grumpy mummy particularly as the 3 weeks come to a close.
Being a FIFO mummy can be pretty isolating at times. It has it's ups definately, especially when DH is home, but honestly when its time for him to come home I am so ready to share the care. I take my hat off to those mummy's coping with either more kids and/or longer FIFO stints. :hugs:

Hi Michelle and Poppysmum,
its definatley hard work, and i am sure we all feel the same and do the same re: being short with the kids and awaiting for the time our partners return to help out with the child care and moaning to them on the phone!!! its nice to hear we are not doing it alone, where do your husbands work? my husband is on the ocean epoch. And Michelle i admire you packing on your own, we thought about moving but the thought of havin to keep the house tidy etc for openings and anytime viewings with two young children put me off for sure, so well done you!!! and poppymum i know how you feel about the partners not being there for important mile stones, my husband missed out on a lot of our daughters important moments including her first birthday and now her second!!! bless him,

Anyway Take it easy

Hi, it's great to see someone else posting nowadays.
How are you doing the moving, I do hope you have close friends and family near by to help.
It does make it difficult and my Husband really misses his boys. Now that my boys are a little bigger (3 and 6) we have a camera and Skype setup on our laptop so that when he calls they can all see each other. Even if it's only for a few minutes a week, it really helps.
i know exactly what you mean about the complaining all the time, they do know how hard it can be, and I often vent loudly to a close friend on the day or so before he calls. Then hopefully he only gets the good news!!!
My oldest finds it really hard when DAD can't be there for Christmas etc. But one day he might hopefully understand it was all for him and his brother. They will get a good education out of it I hope! and with all the technology now, they have it better than some.
Husbands been home for quite a while now, so the boys will be hit really hard when he does go back to work. Can't wait!!!!!

Hi All, yay another one!!! DH heading of for 3 weeks training in Norway tomorrow and it will be the first time he's been away since the birth of our 1st 9 weeks ago..... hoping they dont spring a hitch on him after the training.

So I will probably be on here venting and sharing a little, I live in rural Vic and none of my close friends would have any idea of the challenges you face being 'rigpigs' wife, and I have no idea how hard it will be with a baby, but Mums just up the road.

Happy to chat about anything if there is anyone out there.

Hope you all had a happy easter

Hi everyone, I don't get on here much either but am on facebook a fair bit. Would love to join the group :) What are the details?

My husband works on a rig off Exmouth W.A and I have a nearly 5 year old DD and a 5 1/2 month old DD. We've had lots of stuggles with DD1 coping with Daddy gone and adjustment issues for my husband when he comes home....he works night shift and takes a good 4 days to get back into normal life.

Take Care all! 1 day at a time......:flowerz:

I'm new to FIFO and new to Bubhub, my DH is due to start his roster in 7-10 days, 4 weeks on/off. We have 18mnth BB, and would love to chat and get some hints of those of you that have been doing it for years.
