She will grow out of it in her own time.

DD used to suck 2 fingers to comfort herself and to go to sleep. I was worried she would do it forever, but she just stopped one day. I didn't even notice until a few days later. Occassionally she will pop her thumb in her mouth and I just say "You're a big girl, you don't do that" and she replies with "but <kid at kindy> does it". A second later it's out again and she won't do it again for a few months:confused:

Try not to worry, she's just comforting herself - will also help her as her teeth come through.

My DS is 5 months old and has been sucking his fist since birth, but now he's figured out he can suck his thumb so hes doing that. I think they all grow out of it in their own time, after all you dont see 15 year old boys sucking their thumbs :p

DS did it probably for about the first 6 months. Now he sometimes has a chew on his thumbs when he's falling asleep. more a chew than a suck. Every kid's different. My mum has a theory that they'll grow out of it sooner if you don't nag them about it. theory being that nagging makes them feel more insecure = need to suck. Don't know how true it is, but do know my best friend was still sucking her thumb at 6 and her mum was constantly at her about it. she was pretty stuborn though
