Has anyone else had an Out of body experiance whilst giving birth. When I had my third child ds2 (2000) I wanted a drug free delivery I went into labour about six in the morning about four hours into my labour Which was quiet a painfull labour I all of a sudden felt myself lift up out of my body and felt as though I was standing next to myself watching what was going on. I went all calm and the midwives and my xdp where asking me if I was ok? I kept saying Its ok I am not in here any more. They all looked confused wich I thought was very funny and I tried to tell them I was not in my body but next to it But they could not understand and started to worry. I felt absolutly NO pain during this time. It was the most incredible experiance I was like this for several hours Untill I started pushing his head out and then I snapped back into my body and pushed my boy into the world. He had had shoulder dysplasia and was 9 pound 9 ounce Not breathing But the midwives rescusitated him and he was fine (just a lovely purple colour But breathing and crying) This experiance was truelly something else and it took me a while to try to understand it but I think it was my bodies naturall pain killers kicking in. I cant explain why I felt I was watching from the side of the bed I suspect It was my brain being a little warped given the circumstances :D So has anyone else ever experianced anyhting like this ?

the only sort of related experience ive heard about is my mum said she saw herself giving birth from the ceiling.... although shed had pethidine... so she was probably smashed

My friend's mum also said she 'floated up to the ceiling' and was looking down at herself during labour. She also saw her older son by the bed, stroking her hair (even though he was at home at the time; she birthed in hospital). The midviwes wrote it up as a 'near-death experience' after listening to her talking about it, even though she had no life-threatening complications.

Very interesting. I agree with you, it could have been your body's way of coping with the pain. I can understand why your support people were concerned for you though! :flowerz:
