Just wondering if anyone has any tips for removing the tape they put over the scar? It is stuck on so badly that it is really painful to remove.:( It is really heavy duty latex looking stuff. Would love any ideas!

Oh isn't that stuff horrible!

I used a face washer to soak over it for at least a good hour!

My ob told me to just leave it there as long as it wanted to stay put cos it makes a better scar. He said it wasn't unusual for women to turn up to their 6 week appointment with it still intact. So maybe just put up with it a bit longer??

I was considering leaving it but initially I didn't realise I could (the dr told me to take it off yesterday). So now I've taken a third of it off and the rest is still there, it is bugging me so much.
Might try the soaking idea. I found some sorbolene helped a little. Might just have to put up with a bit of extra pain.

I think I used a bit of baby oil too! Can't remember if it helped or not though!

It's probably more of a placebo effect huh OM??? You'd think with all the other cr@p that goes along with c/s's this would be nothing......

I know what you mean! lol:laughing: here they have cut you wind open stretched you pulled you etc and then we all sit their going ooh this is gonna hurt pulling this itty bitty piece of tape off! lol

And yeah probably the placebo effect. That sticky stuff though that was on the tape it stayed for a good week and a bit after I took the tape off no matter how much I tried to wash it off!

I was to much of a chicken to even attempt taking it off....went to my GP to get him to do the job!:D He prepared me by telling me it was just like getting waxed...but worse.

Eucalyptus oil works wonders on the sticky residue left behind.

I just kept hopping into a REALLY warm (hot really  ) shower... and I steamed them really well :) - then I pulled one or two pieces off a day .. IN the shower... hot water does wonders on pain!!

I rubbed them.. rather than pulled???

( oh.. and welcome back!!! :hugs: congratulations!!!)

First of all, congratulations & welcome back!

Its funny, mine wasn't painful to get off at all, no worse than a bandaid. With both, i hopped in a hot shower & peeled it off while i was in there. That was 4 days after DD1 (the midwives told me to leave it, the doc said take it off.... ), and the second day with DD2. I foudn if i held it taut (as much as i could handle), it made it heaps easier to pull off.

And I agree with bec79, eucalyptus oil works wonders!

Ouch! I am super squeamish so I just left mine until they came off by themselves. It took a while, but they weren't bothering me or anything. I was also worried that if I took them off I might pop open  .

I too just left it there until it eventually peeled off. Took ages though.

I have a latex allergy and I react to tape, so I had none! Sounds like I was lucky, lol!

I was one of those people that turned up for the 6 week check up with it still in place:laughing: . It fell off eventually like so many I thought my insides would fall out if I took it off

There is a product called "Remove" that you should be able to buy at the chemist. It is designed as an adhesive remover for surgical dressings. It comes in a bottle or swab form. Just lift a bit of the tape and dab inbetween the skin and tape to loosen the adhesive bond. It is a bit smelly (like fly spray).

Hi

I got DH to help get it off while I was in the shower. We used scissors to. I found it wasn't so much the tape that hurt but the hairs it was stuck to. Hope this wasn't TMI.

Good luck and enjoy them both

Bpato is right - the hairs that stuck to it was the worst part. In the shower with motions like you are waxing worked for me. Grab a piece of flesh, take a deep breath and pull.

Took me about 25 mins and I nearly passed out (but I think that was from having my head down for that long, not the pain).

Thanks everyone for your replies!
Well I worked up the courage and am now an expert at removing the tape. I tried a range of products, but OM hit the nail on the head.
Baby oil is most definately the way to go. Nothing worked as well. Thanks, I have now, pretty much painlessly removed all the tape.:D
