Hi Ladies,

Can Endo effect egg quality or does it only effect the endo lining?

In other words.....If I have an egg quality problem could it be cause by undiagnosed endo?

Anyone know?? Thanks!

Hi there,

How are you?

The genetic material which goes in eggs is made while they're still in their mum's wombs. It's amazing to think all our eggs were made when we were still forming ourselves!

So no, endo can't affect egg quality. Age is one factor affecting egg quality, because they are the same age as you are:yes:. But it's not the only one. Smoking, radiotherapy and chemo can also damage eggs.

I'm sure you've got some little powerhouse egg... (hope I do too!) :fingerscrossed:they'll turn up at the right time.

cheers,

Hi Bonnie, :shakehands:

Thanks for your response.

I actually didn't think it could effect egg quality just as you said but I was mislead by my chinese herbalist/accupunturist. She said that endo can grow over your ovaries and effect the ovarian function therefore producing bad quality eggs.

It left me confused and thinking maybe that's why I have such bad eggs??

I have had bad AF pain and ovulation pain on the herbs she has given me and now she thinks it's because I may have endo!! I'm pretty sure I don't have it as my AF is never heavy but I have had pain here and there previously but not major pain like I have on the herbs.

I couldn't just develop it now, could I?

Endometriosis is when the endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus in the pelvic cavity. It often grows as a spider web type tissue, covering various organs (including ovaries) and can also result in large ovarian fibroid cysts.

The major problems with endo come when the tissue clumps around organs, and sticks organs together .... especially intestines ..... this is mainly when you get pains.

Other symptoms are painful periods and painful ovulation, heavy bleeding, out of cycle bleeding and lots of other things.

The severity of symptoms does not always indicate the severity of hte endo ... some women have severe endo and no symptoms ... others have lots of symptoms but not a lot of the actual endo tissue ...

In MOST cases, endo causes infertility - but they dont know why. It doesnt actually stop ovulation and theoretically should not affect egg quality because as Bonnie said, eggs are fomed when you are in the womb, however ... as you know ... eggs have to mature in the ovaries/follicles before being released so it is possible that this is affected.

IVF is pretty successful in women who have endo, but this is usually after the endo has been cleared ... so ????

Did you do a tubal patency test? What does your FS think? Do you get other symptoms? Have you ever had a Lap?

Hi Helenmac,

If you're getting severe pain on the herbs your herbalist is giving you, I think you should stop taking them! If you get pain when you take the herbs I agree that the simplest explanation is that the herbs are causing it - not that you just suddenly developed endo.

If you're seeing a FS is it likely they missed seeing endo growing over your ovaries? Alternative therapists are great - but they shouldn't go around scaring their clients with rubbish.

I'll eat my words if you get a lap and they find endo growing over your ovaries causing poor quality eggs! :o

Katiesmum - Thanks! You are always so full of knowledge!! No, I haven't had a lap done. I have had the dye test and my tubes are all clear. I think my FS said (back at the 1st appointment) that if I had endo then I would have very heavy AF and intense pain every month.

Bonnie - Thank you! I appreciate your input.
Yes, I agree with you I think the herbs are causing the pain but my chinese herbalist is adament that on the herbs I should have NO pain whatsoever in fact it should do the opposite and make the pain go away.
I asked her does anyone complain with pain on the herbs and she said only the women with endo!! - So it's confused me.

All I can do now is wait to talk with my FS. I'm not seeing him until the Sept 22nd so I'll ask him what he thinks then.

:fingerscrossed: I don't have it and its the herbs!!

I think you should stop taking the herbs and see if the pain goes away. I do have endo. I went to a naturopath as a last resort before doing IVF when TTC #1 and she gave me a nasty concoction which actually made my endo and irritable bowel worse. It was supposed to help. In the end I just couldn't take it anymore and did the IVF which worked. I think the vitamins she gave my DH may have helped with his side of the IVF though. His sperm (which was supposed to be sluggish) actually performed very well LOL. I have him on the Menevit now. Hope it helps.

Hi Ladies,

Interestingly enough, I had NO ovulation pain whatsoever this month!!

My chinese herbalist changed my herbs around. I guess I was on the less concentrated ones and BINGO, no pain. Funny thing is though for the last two years since my m/c I have always had a slight ovulation pain (not severe like last month) but this month no indication that I was ovulating whatsoever!! To the point that I think I DH and I missed BD'ing at the right time. I don't hold much hope anyway as we only did it once!!

Thanks for your support ladies. I'm over my little freak attack  and I'm sure I don't have endo. No need to worry now!

Hi.. please don't take this the wrong way :o I am not out to 'prove anyone wrong' and I also didn't realise this until recently, but endo can and in many case does affect your egg quality. My FS told me today at my appt. She said my endo has caused my eggs to be of poor quality and now that I have had it removed my egg quality should also improve..

Interesting, huh? I have now done some reading on the net and have read a few articles which support this idea.

Luv2beaMummy - this is a pretty old thread.

In fact Helenmac (the OP) fell pregnant and has had the bubby .... :D

But yes - you are right .... endo can affect egg quality.

Thanks KatiesMum.. yeah I realised it was an old thread but felt compelled to write anyway..I'm a dag I know.. Thought it may still be of interest to anyone reading/ discussing Endo. Also had just had my appt with FS who had told me bout it, so it was fresh in my mind.
Glad to hear she went on to have a bub..that's great:yes:
