I got tested during a regular antenatal visit yesterday and was 8.7. I was told 7.7 is a high range sugar test. I was annoyed cause I ate something sugary on the way to the hospital and now I have to go through the whole diet and blood test thing.
I am so annoyed with myself for eating that stuff I am hoping I don't have it and don't think I do, what experiences have the mothers on here had.
I now wish I had not gorged my self on sugar ( breakfast bar) before the hospital but forgot about having the sugar test at 25 weeks.
Is there a chance I may have gestational diabetes? and is it hard to deal with. I find out on 15th May.
Thanks for your help,

I had GD at it isn't nice but it really isn't the worst thing to ever happen!
You get retested anyway so if you don't have it that is great! However if you do have it, it is usually managed just by altering your diet!

Hi there.
I had GD both pregnancies. I don't want to panic you, but even if you did eat the sugary bar, you should still have recorded under the acceptable level as your body would have proessed that sugar anyway. The fact you went over may mean that you have an issue.
But remember also, if you are a bit under the weather, about to come down with a cold etc, your levels can "glitch" so it may not be an issue.
And anyway, with levels of under 9, you could probably easily control this with diet if you had to - no needles.
Good luck, and next time, stay hungry!!
Been there, done that... :D I had GD and it didn't go away so now I have type 2 diabeties.
The testing etc.. is not hard to deal with once you get the hang of it. It is knowing what to eat and what are safe portion sizes that is the frustrating part. Especially if you go out to eat. :banghead:
On the plus side, with being careful what I ate and exercising after meals, I ended up loosing weight. After I had my boy, I was slimmer than when I fell preg.
Feel free to PM me if you want more info, :fingerscrossed: that you don't actually have it though.

Thanks for your help,
 the same thing happened to me..on the morning of my appointment I had pancakes and a mocha!!! (i didnt know any the wiser as it was my first test/pregnancy and they didnt tell me i couldnt not eat anything sugary!!)
Anyway..needless to say..my results came back high like yours so i had to do the 3hours test!! (note take heaps of reading material!! ) mine came back negative...it was just annoying have to go back for so long...I don't think you have much to worry about..yours will probably turn out the same as mine, and if not i'm sure everything will work out. :fingerscrossed:

For it not to alter the result you would had to have eaten it approx over an hour before the test though!

I said DON"T panic!!
Needles - ie insulin, but only if you can't regulate by diet - it's a strict diet but easy to follow. I had no problems and I am a real carb and chocolate addict.
One step at a time - you aren't even sure you have an issue yet.
DON"T PANIC!!!!!
Who's talking about needles????
If you are a bit naughty and can't control your diet and don't exercise OR you do everything correctly, but your body just can't cope, then you might need to inject insulin for the last few stages of your pregnancy.
Oh no what a bugger! Having to do the extended test is a pain but you're better off knowing! GD can be nasty if it's not managed properly...but as I understand it is usually pretty easy to manage. Good luck!

best of luck with your repeat test! I was diagnosed with GD a cpl of weeks ago but only started monitoring yesterday and things aren't going to well so far trust me and I'm eating exactly as they told me to and around 1/2 - 2/3 serving sizes now and still getting sky high results every time. I go back on tuesday but from what I was told yesterday and how things are going at the moment.. I'll be needing insulin for sure.
I'm sure you'll be fine in your repeat test. No need to worry really!
I had GD in my second pregnancy and kept it well under control with diet and exercise!

Good luck with your next test :)
I had GD with my daughter - controlled with diet for the most part but I did end up on insulin for the last few weeks.
The diet is very healthy and if nothing else will stop you gaining excessive weight ;)
Seriously though, there are far worse things that can happen during your pregnancy. GD can be controlled, unlike alot of other things that can go wrong.
Good luck I'm sure you'll be fine!

Thanks girls for all your help on GD I am quietly confident that all will be fine but annoyed about the hassles of having more time off work.
If only I didn't eat that breakfast bar!!!grrrrr:gloomy:

haha, i found that too. after i gave birth, i was smaller than i was before i was pregnant. even the size of my bum shrank. all the weight i gained was just baby weight. and i too lost weight when i was pregnant due to the new GD diet. i just had the floppy jelly belly as my belly was ENOURMOUS in the remaining months of pregnancy ( you would too with a 10lb baby! lol)
sadly, i've put weight back on. mostly just in my belly.
i think i better go back on my GD diet, although i dont have GD or diabetes anymore, then maybe i'll lose weight. :D :smiliedance:
Good luck with your second test, hope everything goes well for you. I know lots of people who got the all clear with the repeat test - unfortunately I wasn't one of them :D
I found it very confusing at first trying to follow the advice given by the dietician and my readings were quite high. Bub hubber Sarie was the best help of anyone (thanks again Sarie!) and since speaking to her I've had no trouble keeping my blood sugar levels down.
My baby is due to be born next week by caesarean section (it's breech) and is only about 7.5 lbs. My OB said that because my diabetes has been controlled so well by diet my risk is the same as anyone without diabetes.
It's a shock at first but you get used to it and the diet is not bad at all - as some people have mentioned you can even lose weight  . The worst thing I found was remembering to do my blood test two hours after eating in between meetings at work!!
