Morning lovely ladies
So.... getting all prepared to begin TTC #2 next month and had a few Q re Ovulation tests. Who uses them? Anyone reccommend them with success? Which one's do you use? Are they easy to use?

I have seen them in the supermarket and they look terribly expensive.I have considered temping but with my insomniac sleep schedule I wonder if it would even be worth it-I imagine my temps would be all over the place

Who uses maybe baby? I have heard it is a bit dodgy? Is there a similar product with a better rep?

Does anyone use the ebay bulk cheapies?

many questions.......

Sending fertile vibes in all directions :babydust2::babydust2::goodvibes::babydust2::babyd ust2::wizard:

Hi makingalolaorliam,

I've only used OPKs this month. I ordered a heap off ebay, think it was $10 for 20 tests. I did get a definite positive with them (despite thinking they were useless because they kept coming up negative when I 'thought' I should be getting close to O! LOL)

I've been temping as well, but like you my sleep patterns are erratic and I think the temps reflect that. I've been charting on myfertilitycharts and according to temp calculations I O'd on Sunday. According to OPK & CM yesterday was the day, so I'm not sure that the temping was successful.

Not to worry, we've been DTD enough to cover all bases so :fingerscrossed:

Sending you lots of :babydust2:

Hi makingalolaorliam,
I use maybe baby but have only just started TTC this cycle so will let you know how I go. It told me i was O'ing on CD13 but i had no signs of it, its now day 16 and I think I might have some EWCM? But MB is only giving me pebbles. I think my hormones are pretty screwy from my recent m/c though so don't expect I'll get preg this month.
I don't chart temps as since I'm a nurse I work funny hours and they'd be all over the place too! Will see how I go with MB. I like it so far, haven't tried any OPK as they seem too expensive!!

If you really want to try OPK's have a look on ebay. I buy minr from there and they work well!
I just bought 100 tests for $60 last week!! ( 80 Ov tests and 20 Preg tests).
I have a maybe baby somewhere but I cant find it, but it was really good last time we were TTC.
Temping is good, it works well for me but if you have a really wacky sleep pattern then it might not work well for you, no harm in trying it though:thumbsup:

I used the OPK's from coles (they only stock one brand but cant remember what its called... confirm maybe?) they are about $20-$25 a pack which is expensive. When trying to concieve DS it was my first month off the pill, i have always had extreamly irregular cycles (Even on the pill) i bought about 5 OPK's because i think u only get 5-7 tests in each one... i started using them from the day my period finished for till and just after i got the positive from them.... for me we fell pregnant that month and had DS :)

This time around i didn't worry about the OPK's just had DH perform every day for the month hahaha (And it worked we fell pregnant first time again)

I used First Reponse HPT's from about 3-4 days before AF was due and got BFP first response are awesome!!!

best of luck

Hmmm The ebay ones are definately cheaper than the supermarket ones-a big plus from me! I just wonder with regards to quality etc, have you found them easy to use?

I've heard others say that MB was confusing and sometimes inaccurate, I will definately be interested to see how you go .

I am usually fairly sure when I have EWCM -it's just within that timeframe that I am clueless as to when 'O' actually occurs.

It's funny how many of us have odd sleep patterns-or not funny probably:sleeping:

That sounds positive! :) :yelclap:

I wonder if the ebay ones would be reduced quality cause they are so much cheaper?:detective:

IMO I used both O tests & MaybeBaby & I recomend both along with temp & FertilityFriend.com
All those together was my winning combo.
I agree I brought my O tests in bulk on Ebay & they worked great.

p.s Liam is a great name:D (says I who has a son named Liam hehehe)

Do you find maybe baby and the OPK's to be consistent with each other as to when you 'O'? I have been watching my cycles for the last fie months with FF but not yet charted my temps.

I love the name Liam too :)

When I first started using OPKs & Maybebaby I had no idea what my cycle was like as I never watched/charted it before.
But after the 2nd month I was seeing a pattern & found I O around CD 16-17 (thanks to fertilityfriend charting) & the OPKs & MB both showed up posi just before that time. Like last month I got a posi OPK i think it was CD 15 so I knew I would O withing 48hrs.
It was a great tool.
I used/relied on OPKs more then MB tho & don't think you need both, I just did it all so I can get use to my cycles as I had no clue about them before charting. :)

Wishing you all the best TTC & hope you get your BFP quickly! It took me 5 cycles!

That would be me right now lol!!

I have my fertility friend home page open at all times, OPK's going twice a day and if I can find my maybe baby again I'll be spitting on a microscope for the next few weeks too lol! It all gets kinda crazy!
I kinda enjoy the whole science of TTC though it's fun!

OP- I think the ebay tests are of good quality, the only difference is that they are smaller. You dont have a thick stick with a lovely plastic cover like the ones at the supermarket, but they seem to pick up your LH just as well IMO:thumbsup:

Yes that will probably be me!:o

DH will probably be like "what's all that cr@p?" Don't we just have to have sex?"

It's so funny all the years spent trying to not get pregnant and then you learn it's just not that simple after all

I think I enjoy the gadgets because it gives me the illusion of some kindof control over the situation-it makes me feel like I am "doing" something instead of sitting back and letting it all happen. Sure passes the agonising wait too!:p

I'm not sure how the quality compares, but they do seem to work so maybe it's just the 'packaging' that they save on? The ones I got don't have a brand but each one is in an individual sealed foil packet. They are just a small strip about 10cm long and 1/2cm wide. You need to dip it in urine for 5 sec. Easy to use, I've just used a 'pot' to collect the wee & then done the dip. Then you read the result within 5 mins. They are different to HPTs though .. FMU is not to be used, apparently around 2pm is the best time to test. I got some HPTs off ebay too, but I haven't used any ... yet!!

I hear you on all the years avoiding conception  I used to obsess about contraception, now I'm wondering if I didn't need to worry so much!! I too like the 'control' factor of knowing what's going on ... although I think DP prefers me to keep him in the dark with all my 'mad science' Not hard for him to figure out when my fertile time is though, I think he's relieved it's over for this month! ;)

Are those the tests with the variable ink shades that get darker approaching 'o',orare they just positive/negative?The former sound kindof confusing and hard to read:confused:

It is the 'double band' kind of test. So there is the control band and the test band, similar to a HPT.

The test band has to be darker or as dark as the control band for a positive result.

It does sound a little confusing, but now that I've used them across a cycle it makes sense. I got a test line up very early in cycle (but it wasn't anywhere near as dark as the control so it was a negative) then only the test line for the next 5 days or so. When I got the positive test it was really obvious that two lines were the same colour. I did another test the next day 'just in case' and did get the second line, but it was clearly not as dark as the control line. It probably sounds complicated reading all that but it did seem to be pretty obvious looking back. And this was my first month so in future I will be more confident that I'm not doing anything wrong.

HTHs it all seemed a bit confusing to me before I started too!

EDIT: Using the right urine is important too apparently. Sometime between 10 and 2pm is supposed to be the best. Also recommended not to drink too much in the two hours before testing, which I did find hard because I try to keep fluids up all day. I didn't get to test at exactly the same time each day, but I mostly tested between 11 and 1pm.

Ive been useing the OPK for the first time and ive found they to be awesome!!! I too say thumbs up to those ebay cheapies:thumbsup: if you have a 28 day cycle you start useing them on cd9. The ebay ones aslo come with a chart on when the best time to start testing. I do my twice an day, mid-morning and later-arvo and you can ovulate laster the same day you get a postive.
Im also useing maybe baby which i got frustrated with a first, but after a few weeks ive worked it out. All the best:D
