My daughter was 5 weeks premmie and I hired an Ameda electric pump from the pharmacy at that time for about 1 month. I was able to manually express until she was about 4 months old and my milk now just won't come down. As I'm nearly out of milk in the freezer, I need to purchase an electric pump so that I can leave her with family for short periods of time and not worry about being held up somewhere.

I found the Ameda pump great but it's really expensive. I've been looking on ebay for a new/second hand one and there are a few brands I am interested in but not sure what they are like and don't want to waste my money.

The one I like most is the Cherub Flow Electric pump. It's got Natripump & Natriflow technology - does anyone recommend this or have any comments about this?

And the other ones I like the look of are the NUK electric and Pidgeon electric. The medela has been recommended but again, it's quite expensive.

Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi there!

The Medela Mini Electric (that also takes batteries) is great for expressing. I have had mine over two years and am now using it for my second baby. I also have a friend who is exclusively expressing at the moment and she has found it very handy too. It is so small and compact and having batteries is an added bonus. It is also recommended by the ABA.

Anyway, that is my suggestion. HTH:)

I personally have had a bit of trouble with the Nuk electric pump - the pump a) didn't have enough suction or b) kept breaking. I'm now on about the 5th replacement pump!

Apparently Avent are coming out with a new electric pump but I'm not sure of the release date.

I was using the Medela Mini Electric, did so for about 2 months. I found it very handy to start with, but they quickly lose their effectiveness and started to sound like they were going to stop. I had the first one replaced, and ended up taking the second one back for a refund.
I used the Medela Manual pump for my first baby, but wasn't using it as often as I needed to express for this bub. I am back to the manual pump now, but my supplies have become very low- almost non existent.
She was exclusively fed EBM until about 3 1/2 months, now she's mainly on formula. She's be 4 months old in 3 days

Hi.
Just wanted to make sure you knew - most chemists have a electic pump hire service. Just ring up your local and enquire. Otherwise I just got a hand operated Medela pump, which works fine. (and wasnt half as expensive as the motorised ones!) Good luck!

My bub was 6weeks premmie so i had to express exclusively for the first couple of weeks then to keep up supply after. I hired a medela electric one from the chemist and it was great but it does get expensive. I then brought a pidgeon electric and it was terrible, i went from getting over 100ml on the medela to getting maybe 20mls on the pidgeon. So i returned it and brought the Avent Isis manual and it was preatty good. Although i would much prefer an electric. I think i will scout around for one next time.

Good Luck

In case you have one near you, Toys r Us have the Medela on sale for $50 I think.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I got the Toys r Us catalogue yesterday and spotted the Medela mini electric - $99 which is a $50 saving. I put one away yesterday and we're going to get it tomorrow as one of my mother's day gifts. They only had 3 left - very lucky!

Thanks again. Your advice has been extremely helpful.
