Well Joshua was due on the Wednesday the 2nd of Nov, i started having pains in my back etc and was thinking, well this must mean something.... these continued on and off until the next day and on Thursday afternoon (3rd) I had a show at about 1:45pm. Stayed at home till contractions were 3 mins apart then called the hospital. I got to the birth suite at 8pm and the put the monitor on me, the contractions became irregular, 3 mins, then 20 mins etc. They weren't thinking i was in labour just yet and only wanted me to stay cause i had slightly high BP. So we were staying the night.

At 4am, contractions got stronger and my family were called back into the hospital. From about 4am till 10:30am contractions continued and were getting more painful and the gas wasn't helping. The midwife went and saw the doctor about other pain relief and what my options were. All this time i wanted to get an internal, and she kept putting it off, saying, oh why put you through that at this stage, it's unneccessary... ! I was only 3cm at this stage, and then when they checked a bit later i was 5cm, my waters were still intact, so they broke them about at 10:30am. Anyways, the doc suggested an epidural and synctonin drip to speed things along. They stuffed the drip and had to put that in twice, they also stuffed the local anesthetic and the epidural and both were attempted twice, very painful!! By this stage i was in a lot of pain and hoping things were progressing, but no things were still very very slow!

By about 8pm they checked me to be at 7cm, grrrr!! I was so annoyed, they also found out he was posterior, which was why it was taking so long! I then started to have a rest cause i was exhausted. I can't really remember too much after this cause i was so out of it with pain and exhaustion. I think it must have been about 10pm by the time they came and checked me again and they found i was finally fully dilated and could start pushing. That made me very relieved so i started pushing, god it was terrible, i was screaming and swearing to get the baby out, cut him out, suck him him out do whatever, just get him out!! They got the vacuum extraction and she couldn't attach it properly so while i was pushing she was going in trying to attach this thing which absolutely killed! Anyways, i think about after an hour or so of pushing his head came out and i just stopped, i said, you can do the rest from here can't ya?! hehe! They said to just keep pushing and about 3 pushes later he came out screaming and they put him on my chest. His eyes were wide open and he was absolutely perfect. Then i was losing too much blood so they gave me a needle, that didn't work, so they gave me a suppository, that didn't stop the bleeding. So i had to be taken to surgery to see if there was anything wrong. I lost over 1litre of blood, so they were a bit worried. My first words when he came out was, is it a boy? And, do i need stitches!?? Well, first answer was yes, and second answer was no, so i was very pleased with both of those answers! Finally he was here, i was disappointed i wasn't able to see him get weighed etc, but i did feed him for about 15mins before i went down to surgery, which was just lovely. When i came back from surgery it was 2am in the morning, i gave Joshua another feed and gave him to the midwife's to look after as i could not move to get up to him.

While all this was happening, my poor twin sister was experiencing every single pain i had, she was even swearing at the doctor's to get the baby out cause she was in so much pain. They had to ask her to leave as she was distracting them cause she was keeled over in so much pain. So she was in the waiting room having hot sweats and washing her face and almost passing out from the pain. My poor mum was rushing between me and my sister and the doctor felt so bad for her she wanted to give her some pain relief! My DH was just wonderful he was yelling c'mon, like lleyton hewitt and just being so strong and wonderful, especially as my labour was just as tiring for them as much as me (well, almost!)

Written retrospectivally:

So yeah, basically i laboured for about 27 hours, my waters were broken and 13 hours later i gave birth, thought it would have happened much quicker than that, i was absolutely exhausted, out of it from the gas i was having and really just a big ordeal i didn't want to experience ever again! The worst bit was after the birth i developed hypermobility and didn't know for the first 16 months of DS's life why i was in constant pain, all i knew was i wasn't like that before i had him, so yeah his birth traumatised me badly and i struggled a lot early on looking after him while being in constant pain, it hurt to put my feet on the ground and get up out of bed, i would have shooting pain go right from my toes up to my thighs, very weird. So yeah looking after him was hard, he was quite a difficult baby and i think the whole birth experience impacted my relationship with my son and i am sure i had undiagnosed PND, so fastforward to now, and i have had a beautiful experience with my second son and you can read his story here:

Thanks for sharing your birth story. I also read your homebirth story too. It's amazing that after the birth of your DS1 you took control and became empowered to seek the homebirth that you wanted, and you successfully achieved it with DS2. Hooray for you!!! :yelclap:

Thanks guys, i don't think i really was able to capture how traumatic it was through words, but i really didn't want to relive that experience. So glad it worked out wonderfully 2nd time around. :goodvibes:
