as of yesterday morning about 6:30am, my son has had diarrhoea. he had temps yesterday but they have come down today.
How long can diarrhoea go for before it gets too much?? My DS is ok so far, has a little whinge, goes to the toilet and then is ok for a while. he doesn't want much food (except for all the goodies he can't have!)

what foods do i introduce him onto and for those who haev been in this situation, can the doctor actually DO anything for him??

Thanks guys.
Emma.

I think in children if it goes for more than 12 hours you should have it checked. But I do not thin the Dr can do anything anyway  Maybe give him Gastrolyte to drink. I would avoid dairy and stick to bland stuff, like toast.

i know that in children under 2yrs old 8-10 diarrhoea movements within 12 hours should be checked out asap. if you cant get gastrolyte ask for oral rhydration salts :o

Pedialyte is similar to Gastrolyte if you're out looking.

There is some helpful info on dealing with diarrhoea on these sites, from the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto (Canada): About Kids Health - Diarrhoea (http://www.aboutkidshealth.ca/Article.asp?articleID=2346) and Diarrhoea in Toddlers (http://www.aboutkidshealth.ca/Article.asp?articleID=1961) They suggest starchy foods and fluids.

This is from the Toddlers Diarrhoea page:

When should you call your child's health care provider?
Call immediately if:
there are signs of dehydration (no urine in more than 8 hours, very dry mouth, no tears)
any blood appears in the diarrhea
the diarrhea is severe (more than 8 BMs in the last 8 hours)
the diarrhea is watery and your child also vomits the clear fluids 3 or more times
your child starts acting very sick

Call during office hours if:
mucus or pus appears in the BMs
a fever (over 37.8°C, or 100°F) lasts more than 3 days.
mild diarrhea lasts more than 2 weeks
