Today, I saw a beautiful premature baby boy, fighting for his life, in the neonatal intensive care unit at Westmead hospital.
My Nephew was born @ 27 weeks gestation, weighing 1kg, around the same size as a stretched out hand. His head as tiny as a tennis ball. His tiny lips mumbling and his chest pumping as hard as possible.
Tyson has a hole in his heart which is making it very difficult for his lungs to work correctly. He goes in for surgery this week which will help this precious boy develop.
A special shout out to the brilliant neonatal nurses at Westmead Hospital who are right by his tiny side every second of the day, keeping all eyes and ears peeled.
For keeping his Parents informed and involved and helping his Mother a great deal through all of this.
Premature babies are fighters, it is amazing how they thrive and it makes you appreciate babies even more, regardless of the pain, they fight.
We can learn a thing or two from them.

Please keep this tiny precious fighter in your thoughts.

You girls are lovely. I am staying positive for the little guy, just as his Parents are.
I'll update the thread as he progresses.

Another friend of mine emailed me and told me she worked close by the neonatal nurses at Westmead and she had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. :)

It's so true Ally, I was only there for a few hours but the nurses spent most of their time leaning over the incubators just staring at the beautiful babies, you could sense that they were bonding with them, it was really special.
It's like, they develop such a deep connection with these poor babies who cannot communicate with anyone, who can't be with their Mother's 24-7, they offer as much distant bonding as they can express. It's wonderful.
They are such a fantastic team, they approach the Mother and explain to them that they are going to need to take the babies temperature, if they need to move your baby they ask the Mother for permission, they do all that they can to run it by the Mother first which is very important and definitely helps the Mother cope.
