im posting here since its here nursing/ being a middy one day is what i want to do one day. i have 2 back tattoos, but they are on my back and not often seen unless it summer and im wearing a thin straped top or something.

im wanting a inner wrist tattoo a bit larger than a 50c peice. but im aware of the visibility of this tattoo, i mean not only will i see it all the time so will everyone else. i am taking career into consideration and i want to be a nurse or midwife one day in my 30's, but im not sure if its aloud IYKWIM.

i think this generation is more accepting of things such as tattoos theses days, by the time im old surley it will be even more accepting?

basicaly i want to know if i had a inner wrist smallish symbol tattoo would i still be able to be a midwife/nurse in my life without the tattoo hindering me?

is anyone knows anything about it at all thanks:)

I've worked with nurses with full sleeves of tattoos. As long as they aren't offensive I can't see that there would be a problem; its not a hygiene issue and that's all they should care about. Piercings can be a different matter but tattoos shouldn't be a problem.

imo if ur worried about tattoo hindering your chosen career then you really shouldnt be getting the tattoo.

or maybe get it where it can be hidden.

I was only today at our local hospital with my bub and the nurse looking after us had a number of tattoos, one on each wrist a band around her wrist and one behind her ear! I myself thought this was rather cool as i like tattoos and have a number of them myself but obviously it is allowed these days as she was there!! I am in Qld and she would be employed by QLD health.
I have seen a number of nurses with facial piercings also, so i think body art is becoming far more accepted these days, go for it,,but make sure you 100% sure as they are a bugger to get removed and can leave scarring also.

I have a tattoo on my inner arm... in memory of an angel baby I lost. It probably takes up about half my inner forearm.... and I too want to be a nurse/middie.

IMO there is nothing wrong with it. I also personally think it's shocking anyone is judged professionally on such cynical things as tattoos etc.

I say if it's something you want to get done then do it! If people want to employ you they should on your professional knowledge... not on what ink you have on your body iykwim.

i have a lot of tattoos and am on the way to having full sleeves done i wear long sleeves alot of the time simply because most people judge you on how you look

but in saying that i see alot of little tatts on peoples wrists and stuff and dosent bother me

i thinks its just a little confronting for some people to see tatts instead of skin

I highly doubt it'd be an issue!

thanx for all replies people, so it seems its no big deal to have tattoos show in this kind of work:thumbsup: what i was is only small, black outline symbol :)

i dont think anyone would find the actual tattoo offensive its a celtic pattern.

Some people i know used to call tatts on hands or arms, "ever lasting job stoppers".

But times are a changing...:yelclap:
I think it might depend on if you work private or public?...not sure?

Personally I would prefer a tatt to some some of the dingly dangly jewellery or those id cards that dangle from around their neck that some nurses wear. Potential eye taker outerers:p

I have a tattoo as well and i think acceptance of tattoos (http://www.diabloart.com.au) is growing remarkably. It's easy to do, but you shouldn't judge someone just because they get a tattoo.
