adjusting soaker pattern for newborn

Hi,

has anyone out there adjusted the alice soaker or the dunmani pattern to fit a newborn?

I know it doesn't matter if they are a bit big, but I wouldn't mind adjusting the pattern for a better fit.

Has anyone adjusted either of these?

You could try casting on 40 sts instead of 50 for the Alice?

I have quartered the dunmani pattern adn it fitted a friends small 3 month old. I will hunt it down tonight and pm it to you if you like.
