Hey,

has anyone tried one of the free/ cheap nappy pattersn to make fitteds for newborn?

I am interested in making some cheap nappies, but don't want to use snaps or anything too elaborate or I will give up...

I have never made (or should I say completed) a nappy before, so I wouldn't mind trying to make a few to increase my stash a bit?

What materials did you use?

What pattern did you use?

Has anyone got some pics of teeny home made nappies to get me in the mood????

TIA

Yup.

But honestly, unless your bub is going to be small for a long time its just not worth it.

These are the wee weka newborn pocket pattern.

They fitted my daughter for about 2 weeks! but she was 3.5kg and gained alot of weight quickly.

Then I went onto the s-m wee weka pocket. they still fit her with room for a bit more growing

You could make them without the snaps, and just use pins or a snappi.

I've made snappiable nappies. Not NB though, as you can fold down the rise so they fit.

You could use the rita's rump pocket pattern.

Actually, I do have pics of the ones I made.

Fleece inner and terry outer.

so is making small fitted nappies worthwhile? Wouldn't it be worthwhile compared to using disposables- considering you may go through 10 nappies per day!! (sorry never used cloth much when ds was new!!).

Ikis, how much did it cost for you to set up a newborn/ small baby stash to cope with the newborn poos? Or did you just use flats?

I am trying to think of what is easiest for dh to use as he is not keen on flat nappies and I don't want to waste money on disposables just because I haven't thought of another solution.

any other opinions?

You could always get some bamboo flats and then you could use them to make tri-folds for pockets when bubs is a little older.

I definitely think it is worthwhile making small sized nappies... esp if you use recycled fabrics etc. The fit is much better than flats or OSFM.

It cost me about $20 to make my nb/sml stash, as I used flats and baby blankets that I already had. I bought some microfleece on sale, elastic and some bamboo to make boosters (that isn't really needed though, you could use stuff you have).

Old t-shirts make really nice nappies too - very soft! You could ask on freecycle for old flannel baby blankets or for t-shirts, and make a small stash for very little.

Oh, and I also sold off all of the nappies I made cheap, after I had finished with them, and made all of my money back... so yeah, it was worth it!!

Stupid question........if you fold down the rise for a smaller fit, is it best to fold so thet fleece ends up on th eoutside or teh terry ens up on ht einside?? Or won't it matter??

I always fold out, so that the fleece is on the outer... keeps the nappy nice and snug on baby. But often I would put it on without folding, snappy the wings and pull the extra 'rise' out from the top if that makes sense.
