So a slightly odd question, but I keep seeing those adds for "lifestyle villages" aka old peoples homes and they are now being marketed to 45 year olds and over.

As a young person 45 seems a bit young to be shipping off to an old folks home.

What do 40+ people think of this?
Are you ready for the oldies retreat?

Haven't seen that, maybe the models are just getting younger! :D

I think it's all about lifestyle rather than what we think of as a 'retirement home'.

I wonder if part of the appeal would be, low maintenance housing, people like the leisure style so much now and at that age who wants to spend their weekend weeding and moving lawns and house maintenance?

Also there is the convenience of being able to travel easily, not having to worry about the stuff associated with a house, just lock the door and go. Having stuff onsite (I'm assuming gyms etc) time is saved travelling etc. Maybe for singles it has the attraction of security too.

Interesting though. There are some over 50's places around here and to me it seems young - their 'sense of community' and 'being gated away'

I keep threatening DH that I am going to pack him off to one:p:laughing:

Although I have said that I cant afford one of the nice lifestyle villages he will just have to goto the crusty old nursing home around the corner if he dosent behave:laughing:

My mum is 48 and works at an old folks home for people with dementia.. and I don't see her being 'shipped off' to one of them anytime soon.. so I think it is definetly way too young! How depressing.

I am all for it, particularly if they won't let me take the kids .
Last night I felt old enough for the retirement home, but a good night's sleep has rejuvinated me.
I am horrified they are aiming at such a young market however it may take from 45 to death to be able to afford one..lol.

Aww how depressing to think 45 is considered old enough for retirement homes.

There are some who are "old" at 45 I suppose.
Take my ils for example. They are just a couple of years older than me ( younger DH ) and they can be very "old" in their ways and attitude so something like that would probably suit them. They have grown old already.

Me? No way!!! In my case its, your only as old as the man you feel..I mean your only as old as you feel

Seriously though, I agree with lastcenturymum that its most likely one of those places where they can be around others the same age etc in a complex based on the same as retirement villages

Actually if you look at their site, you are missing the point, they aren't 'homes' or retirement villages, just a new concept in living.

From their site (and their bolding)

"Communities designed for active, vital people who are free of children and enjoy socializing, sports, games, relaxation and travel. People who are too young, too fit, and too healthy for a traditional retirement village."

It would be interesting to know what the average age of people living there are (and if they have an upper age limit!!)

Maybe it's so they invest their money before the kids want to get their hand on the sale of the family home and with just enough room for them so they don't have to have grandchildren move in!
