i'm wondering if my children will look back to their younger years with great sentimentality over family traditions.
one thing i remember was listening to the sounds of war on christmas day , thanks to my military nut father. i'm talking machine guns, soldiers marching through mud, planes flying over head, etc. it made me love my eccentric father even more.............or at my nanna's meals were finished with a cointreau.

does anyone have traditions that they have started with their own.

i have tried to start irish hour on sunday mornings where we play traditional irish music (because my DH is a paddy) .......but i keep forgetting . but when i have played it, both kids seem to love it. DH is the least bit interested though............

I love the idea of having traditions that you start.

We got our first heirloom to hand down the other week. My girlfriend bought us a weddding sword for our wedding pressie, it is etcheed with my maiden name and ryans name and there is space for our kids, their kids and so on.

I'm really looking forward to having this to pass on

Our biggest thing of the year is Halloween which DD absolutely loves. We have a big picnic at dusk with halloween foods and then a big party.

I think it is very important to have traditions.
We like to do lots of things together as a family...

I am starting what I hope will be a tradition. I want to knit each of my kids a blanket to come home from the hospital in so they will each have their own and possible even bring their kids home in it. I have just started knitting the blanket for my first, an orange & white one (cause we dont know the sex) :D

I am bad with getting things like this started - I have the best of intentions, but nothing seems to come of it. When I think about it though, my mum never had specific traditions with me or my little sister. Just the way our family is at birthdays, christmas, easter, is special to me. We don't always have the same food or play teh same silly games, but its my family and it is differetn in its own way to everyone elses - we get each other! That is tradition enough for me...............I think??!! We have always watched carols by candlelight without fail, so I will endeavour to keep that one alive.
