Hi, I am currently TTC #2. With #1 I got PE at 37 weeks that resulted in an induction. The whole thing was really stressful and I'm keen to prevent it this time. I have read the other posts on ideas to prevent it but is there anyone out there who actively tried to prevent PE second time and succeeded. What did you do differently?

TIA

I would suggest talking to your doctor about calcium supplements & low dose asprin, as these appear to help lessen the chances of developing pre-eclampsia in subsequent pregnancies, although the evidence in inconclusive. Alot of people I talk to who have had pre-eclampsia in a previous pregnancy have been advised to take the above, and those with diagnosed clotting disorders (which seem to be at least reasonably common) have been put on prescription blood thinning drugs.
There is no real way to prevent pre-eclampsia, the main thing is to pay attention to your body and ensure that your OB is watching you closely.

I have had PE with all 5 of my pregnancies. I have had every treatment and medication known to mankind. Sometimes I guess it is just hereditary.

Good luck :)

I was diagnosed with Eclampsia at 32 weeks. I recently spoke to my doctor about chances of it happening again, and she said TRUE Pre Eclampsia or Eclampsia only stikes once. So that is some hope for you....
