Whats your style/method when hanging out the washing?

My DH calls me anal :o

I get the clothes out of the machine in order ie, sheets, towels, pillowcases, nappies, pants, shirts, MJ clothes, nappy covers, underwear, socks. Then i hang them out in the reverse order so the underwear is in the centre, sheets on the outside etc.

I'm not fussed how they come off the line, as I fold them up inside, then put them away.

So, whats your method?

lol im pretty laid back i just pick them all up in a heap from the washing machine and then go from there. I usually hang the undies and socks up first and then just go from there. :o  As i said im pretty laid back. My DF on the other hand just throws things over the wire and doesnt even peg them!! Now that gets under my skin!

Anyhow, anywhere :D ! I do like the sheets on the outside though coz they dry better there.

My Dad is anal... he colour co-ordinates the pegs!!!

Sheets, towels and big heavy items like jackets get pegged out, everything else, into the dryer it goes (yes even in summer). I dont like to hang out underwear LOL

I'm pretty much like you RB... I have always sorted out the clothes inside before going out to the line... I pair up the socks and make sure I have all of them... Socks, undies, any small stuff in the centre and then work my way out...

I am like you Donelle, totally anal! If dp hangs out the washing sometimes I wash it again as he hangs it out so badly it is all wrinkly. And I do not iron.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to washing, I asways wash things seperate...ie towels only, bedding only, clothes only, nappies only and I also hang the underwear in the middle. I also wash some of my "delicates" in a little special bag:o

Little things go on the inside and big things go on the outside. I thought that was just common sense, not anal!!

So true Rach, biggest to littlest on the line just makes sense! (wish my DH could see that:rolleyes: ) although I dont sort it out inside, I wait till I get outside then just peg it up in the right order.

Yay, finally a thread where I can show my complete analness!!
I have a very particular system when hanging it out. Obviously undies and socks in the centre but i also hang the soaks next to their pair-makes it easier to remove and pair up as I go. Next comes Hamish's clothes-usually with like items next to each other-ie: gro-suits all beside each other, singlets etc.. Next is our two older children and again PJ's next to each other (each child has two wires each) dresses etc..
The outside is for mine and DH's and yes I put like next to like. The only time this varies is when I hang out nappies-and I use 3 pegs/2 nappies.
When I bring it in.....I fold as I go and make stacks according to whos room and the stacks would be all PJ's, all tshirts, all undies...you get the picture. This method has reduced the amount of time I waste moving washing around.

But...if it has rained or the washing isn't totally dry, it goes into the dryer and non-dryer things on the clothes horse.

Phew, I have finally seen just how anal I am!!:o

Thats me as well. And even though I appreciate when DH puts the washing out, he usually does it the other way around :banghead:

 for me i just chuck all the clothes from the washing machine into the basket and when I hang them out I start from the outside ! It drives DP insane! (I think its more of the reason why I do it too though!)

I'm not fussy about where things get hung on the line (though like everyone else has said, small on the inside, big on teh outside just makes sense) but I am about how they get hung............
You must shake before you hang
Everything must be inside out
and I have certain ways I hang certain items.

Everything except towels and sheets go in the dryer. I have a short memory span and only remember there is stuff on the line 2 days later!

ohhhh I forgot to mention that I never dry DS clothes in the dryer or on the line outside...DS clothes get washed seperatley and dried on a air dyer inside...this way that dont shrink from the dryer and they dont get stiff and hard from the sun outside.......;)

Quite a funny thread as a friend of mine was having a go at me today for what she thinks is some form of an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) .....

I do pretty much the same sort of thing as SalOO8, but I start from the left of the line (I'm now using my under patio pull out) in the order of underwear, shirts, skirts, shorts, jumpers, jackets, pants, jeans, towels, sheets etc (ie all underwear for DD's, mine, DP's, then shirts ....). Naturally, when #2 is here shortly it will start in the order of #2, DD's, mine, DP's!!!

I also must stress (he!he!) that peg colours & types are also very important!!!! Never the same colour peg as clothes & never the same peg colours per item (eg no 2 red pegs on the same shirt!); I also have my underwear, kids clothes etc pegs, heavier shirt pegs, heavy duty jeans pegs .......

I then remove from the line in the opposite way I hung up. I fold as I remove & take in & put away bit by bit. It is a slow process, but I then don't have a huge pile of washing to stress over that would no doubt be crumpled up etc etc.

Surely you can't say I'm weird ???!!!!

Oh, and I've been know to re-peg if someone else has hung out the washing ... mum was here for 1 month a while back & (luckily), she generally used the outside line, that I can't see from inside the house so I didn't "have to re-peg" as much! LOL!!!

I did have to make a few adjustments with the clothes under the patio she hung though!!!

I really am sad, aren't I???!!!

Lol i wash towels and nappies seperately, socks and underwear together with dettol rinse and of course colours get seperated. I don't hang in any particular order but i like to start with the kids clothes.

Im fussy with what I wash together, but I dont care what order they are hung out.
I used to be really anal about pegs. Had to be co-ordinating colours to match the items I was hanging up! (my flatmate got sick of it and bought wooden uncoloured pegs!)

Hmmm interesting...

I pull them out of the machine in the order they come. When I hang though, I tend to hang larger items first. I also try to hang straight, as this is a non iron household  .

I chuck everything in the wash together - blacks with whites, towels with black things that pick up lint easily (I cant believe I still havent learnt my lesson with that one). Then when it comes time to hang them out they get cast over the line in any fashion with no pegs. Then they get blown off and dirty and I re-wash and cast them over again with my :fingerscrossed:

:o

I only hang out clothes - all socks and underwear go in the dryer. I think it comes from living in a share house with some very feral boys when I was younger  and I just can't let go of it.

I hang things out in order from the biggest at the back to the smallest at the front (we have a wall mounted line) and all clothes must have matching pegs - DD1 even hands me the right colour for each person. Blue for DP, White for Me and Pink for the girls. I won't hang towels and sheets on the line if there is clothes on it because they have to have White pegs too and I can't have mine and the sheets with the same colour pegs  I have even been witnessed rearranging the pegs after DP hangs out the washing so he does the peg matching aswell now.

when we moved i bought all the pegs in the same colour - it was taking me ages to hang the laundry with everything matching properly :o i do hang it out in sections (household. DP, DS, me) so when i bring it in (folded) it's already in its distribution pile... i'm a laundry tragic but don't iron so am VERY anal about how things get hung so there's never a peg mark or weird crease for me to feel guilty about!

Don't worry ozzysmum, when the boy is big enough you can get coloured pegs again and teach him how to match so he gives you the right pegs - DD1 does it and is just as tragic as I am about it!! It did help her learn some colours though....

thanks schmell - pass down my weird peg issues to another generation :D hmm although that's a great idea for christmas for the little guy - a big bag of multicoloured pegs and 'quality time' with mummy at the washing line :D

I( am the same, I even sort all my washing, baby/kids clothes, my undies and socks, then me and dp's clothes and then towels and then manchester. I dont really have any particular order but i do group the clothes, i will have DD"s clothes together, same for Ds and for myself.. and i am soo anal when it comes to getting them off the line, the pegs HAVE to come off the line too, and my Dp doesnt do that and i look it at and twitch! :o

pants together, tops together etc.

Im very anal about what can go in the same load together, it has to be sorted before it can go in the machine
Whites
darks
colours
denims
sheets
towels
tea towels (must be separate to the towels)

It doesnt really bother me which order they go on the line, but i have to use the same colour pegs on the same item, as in one shirt has to have 2 same colour pegs, and i cant have 2 items next to each other with the same coloured pegs.....
it drives me insane but i cant seem to break the habbit and just do it any old way:o
