Cold Medications...Can I take some?

I'm sick and miserable with a whiny sick bubba too.
I'd like a little relief from the symptoms so I can get some sleep.

Is it allowed? Will it affect my supply? Will it go through the milk?

Most cold medications will say on the box whether they can be taken during breastfeeding periods, but ask the Pharmacist on duty anyway, also i have heard some medications can dry up your milk supply (but i dont know that personally) so that may be a question to ask too? Hope u feel better soon :hugs:

I do not trust pharmacists.

However Echinacea is safe to take during pregnancy and BFing.

Otherwise, chicken soup and REST is the best thing.

the smaller and younger your baby is, the less things you will be able to take.

with echinacea make sure you look at what else is in it because sometimes there are things in with it that you can't have.

The pharmacist told me absolutely not. He said the decongestant will not only dry up your sinus, it will also dry up your milk. He said I could only have panadol.

Hope you get better soon.

Panadol and ibuprofen are fine. Anything with pseudoephidrine in it will dry your sinus' out - and also your milk ducts, so avoid it like the plague. Pseudoephidrine is also pharmaceutical grade speed, essentially, so its really not good for baby's hearts etc. Most decongestant nasal sprays won't enter the bloodstream so are therefore fine, but can only be used for 3 days at a time or they can cause rebound congestion (much much worse than even congestion from a cold! :()

Aside from that - plenty of fluids and lots of rest! Hope you're feeling better soon :hugs:

and THAT my friends is why I do not trust pharmacists.

I used Demazin not long ago actually. They told me it wouldn't interfere at all.

I seriously never heard of that.

Thanks that's exactly what I needed to know....and what I was dreading. But after working so hard to boost supply in the last couple of weeks I'm not about to risk it!

Oh well panadol and nasal lavage it is.
