What does everyone think of them? Any experiences you would like to share?

DH was thinking of doing a course.

I know they're very expensive... not sure on the quality of the courses though. It'd probably be cheaper to check out your local TAFE or even Uni depending on what course he wants to do.

Another idea is to ring up prospective employers and find out how much weight a certificate from TD carries.

hi
i was and still should be studying intro to psychology via correspondence. i have been very ill for some time and haven't been given an extension and i find their course info very hard to follow. i wouldn't recommend them and have just thrown away $1000. also finding the time with 2 young kids i just couldn't manage it. i know alot of mums out there can but it's not for me:) .

i did a course through them and found them to be very poorly run and the "tutors" dont offer any form of support and i found they ddint mark the assignments very well. when i enrolled i was told coz i was on c/link payments i got a discount like i would if i was to go to tafe and then 3 months later i get a call from them askign for more money  and then i said well i enrolled on the word that i was getting a discount. and since then they have been abusive on the phone to me taken money out of my account when they see fit and even consumer affairs said i was in the right. i dotn reccomend them at all. many local tafes offer off campus courses and are cheaper:thumbsup:

also a certifcate from there doesnt always get your foot in the door coz its not always recognised by employers i found that out the hard way

I was going to do a Beauty therapy course through them..but decided against it cos it was really expansive and the course wasn’t accredited, so it seemed like a waste of money.

Reading these posts makes me glad I didn’t do it!! but in saying that, in some aspects they couldnt be too bad..cos they seem to be one of the few (only one i know of) that are quite popular out of the correspondent courses...they get a lot of promotion from other companies..

They sound dodgy!

Thanks for the info everyone. We will look into TAFE for DH.

I too would not recommend them. The courses are expensive like everyone else has said, the tutors were not any help, and while some of the courses are recognised most aren't.

Cheers

I study with them and to be honest, would not reccomend them. They are far too expensive and always on your back for payments and threaten with debt collecters etc. You are much wiser to go to Tafe. Plus they NEVER help me when I need it, tutors never get back to you and it's just so frustrating

Check out http://www.open.edu.au I do uni through them and they have been really good so far.

You don't need to have done your HSC to do it either.

Hey Starlet, thanks for the link. I checked it out and it all sounds really good! I'm currently doing on-campus studies and bub is due in October so I am interested also.

DH was thinking of doing a course.

I did some research and found that Thomson Education Direct was renamed Cengage Education and has now been renamed again as Open Colleges, who I am doing a course through.

After reading this thread I'm pretty worried that my course isn't worth anything, and after a certain time if you want to drop out they make you pay for the whole course :(
