Hey Ladies,

Just thought I would ask for your advice.

DF and I are still trying to figure out a name for our (surprise sex) little one due mid-july and cant agree on something we both like, we still a few weeks to work on it though.
This is where the dilema comes in. We both like the name Harrison (Harry for short) for a boy BUT, we have a good friend (a relatively new friend of about 1 year but one I think will be around for years to come) who's last name is Harrison and his nick name is "Harry". We dont see him all the time but do catch up at least once a month and is in our social group, and DF has even mentioned asking him to be one of his groomsmen at out wedding.

Do you think that would be inappropriate or a little bit weird to use this name? Obvoiusly if I have a girl this wont be a problem.

I dont think it would be weird to use the name at all, in fact I think it is very nice and you should go for it!

Use the name.

We had a name picked out and its actually my cousin's surname, but I didn't even realise till someone pointed it out. We have since changed our minds, but not because of that.

Lots of boys names are surnames so just go with the name you like and no one will probably even realise. It would be weirder if it was someone's dogs name (that has happened to more than one person in the past!), but even that shouldn't stop anyone naming their baby what they want.

I bet the bloke will be chuffed to have a little Harry. They will have a special bond.

Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate your thoughts, I knew I would feel better after posting. Trying to figure out a name has been the most stressful party of this pregnancy (I suppose if thats all I have to complain about I am doing great!). I just didnt want to use Harry and then people say things about it, I suppose not everyone can be pleased and its our baby so what they think doesn't really matter.

Do you think I should let the guy know we are thinking of using that name or is it none of his business really?

No i dont really think he has a need to know, i mean your not naming him after him.

Good luck

I think that its fine to use the name Harrison! Go for it if you love it!

Im sure that they will understand. In fact, they would probably be thrilled about it. Especially then coz the boys will have something in common.
Its not like its the other boys first name and even if it was im sure they would get over it! :)

I would be chuffed if someone gave their baby my name, whether intentionally or not. I would feel a special bond with that baby too.
