Follow a diabetic diet. The DA website recommends aiming for a medium GI intake for the day. You go too low in carb intake and you risk problems, too high and its the same. One thing I found good was the CSIRO diet but its costly to stick to. You can do a similar version of it yourself and it works out much cheaper. Its tough but you can lose it.

You could go to the Diabetes Australia website and check out what they have to say. As far as doing the CSIRO on the cheap, I've got the 2 books and have just worked out cheaper meals to replace theirs.

A low GI (glycaemic index) diet is best. Its almost like a low carb diet but not quite the same (ie. better). You have the carbs which take a long time for your body to break down the sugars. There are loads of books at the bookshop on this type of diet, just make sure you are looking for low GI and not low carb.

Also, do you need to see an Endocrinologist? I was put on a low dose of Metformin, which is a drug used for diabetes and this did wonders for me. I dont take it at the moment because of breastfeeding but look forward to going back on it in the future.
