Hello, I am desperately looking for a good family doctor in Panania, Revesby, East Hills, Padstow, Milperra. I have a 4 months old daughter and the doctors we have seen so far at the Panania/ Revesby Medical Centre appear to have won their doctors title in the lottery.
Here is my last experience -
I am breastfeeding and last monday I had what appeared to be a blocked duct/ mastitis. The doctor I have seen, prescribed me antibiotics which were for resparitory problems. He didn't even look at my breast properly. As I didn't feel this was right I went back 2 days later to have the breast checked by another (female) doctor. She advised me that the antibiotics I have been prescribed were not strong enough and I have to take the double amount. Also, I need to have an ultrasound done. I have advised her I am breastfeeding and she said the antibiotics will not cause any problems for the baby. So I took what she recommended. I also had the ultrasound done and went back the next day. She didn't even look at the ultrasound or at the breast and prescribed me further medication - thrush medication and another stronger antibiotic. Again she said this is safe for breastfeeding women. At home I did some research on the net. According to the net both (new) medications should NOT be taken by breastfeeding women. I went back to the medical centre the next day and saw another female doctor. She was kind of shocked what was prescribed to me and asked me to stop all medication straight away (or not to take it if I haven't started). By this time my daughter started to have diarrhea...As I was so fed up with everything I asked her to write me a referral for the Sydney breast clinic (been there before). There they found I have a milk cyst - no infection, no mastitis, and NO NEED for antibiotics. The doctors there were quite shocked when I told them what mediation I had been prescribed by the gps I have seen.
I am so angry and upset that a doctor is so careless to prescribe medication that is unsuitable... especially when you explain over and over again that you are breastfeeding....
I have seen other doctors at the panania/revesby medical centre before and they all are pretty average... good for a script if you know what you want but that's it... So you may understand I am desperate to find a good doctor. Doesn't have to be a bulk billing practice... Cheers, Nele

nele i live in picnic point and i dont see drs in panania or revesby unless necessary. I drive to mortdale to dr sam monaha..he is WONDERFUL however i think his books might be closed. the number is 95801804. otherwise Dr Kevin Smith in Panania medical centre (not the clinic on the corner, its the one next to the car park behind the library) is a WONDERFUL dr and a lovely man. he is a friend of mine...would recommend him to anyone. ;) oh and none of those bulk bill adults i dont think, only for under 18.

Hi we go to that medical clinic and while there are some duds there are a few that are really good - also they have different areas of expertise I would say. The one that I always see for my children is Dr Roman and one of the women doctors Dr Fahmy has always been great. Otherwise there is a very popular medical practise in Peakhurst that a lot of people I know go to and are very happy with - its on Forest Rd and across the rd from it is an old closed down servo. Might be called something like Peakhurst Family Practise I think and all the doctors are great (had a bad experience with one but he's left now).

Hi all,

I have recently moved into this area, and am also after a good family doctor. I am a new mum to a 4 week old girl, so it would be really good if I could find a good family doctor that we could rely on. I have also had bad experiences with medical centres (one I went to misdiagnosed my broken collar bone as just a ligament strain. The fracture wasn't picked up till weeks later). I don't feel like trusting them with my precious little one!

Any help/advice would be really appreciated.

I know this is an old thread but could you please advise which GP in Panania you recommend?

Anyone else that could recommend a GP around this area would be appreciated both for myself and my Daughter.

Thank you
