Seen as there is one in the FF section i thought it would be interesting to see it from a BF perspective.

So if you could no longer BF for any reason would you use donated BM?

I think there is already a thread on this. I am sure Mahna started one.

It was a few weeks back, but had quite a good response.

two of my friends have recently had their babies early and both had formula supplements when in hospital.

i have decided that if we are in that position, i will ask my friends to donate EBM for my newborn :)

No I wouldnt If I couldnt breastfeed my own children I'd give them formula (I'm lucky I have been able to breastfeed) while I know breast milk is best I wouldnt want to feed my child someone elses milk BUT would happily donate my own, I am wierd arent I.

Yes. It would of course be from someone that I know well.

Maybe if there were screened/trusted donors around.

I wouldn't accept milk from any old person but if it's from a reliable tap, sure :) Formula is great for keeping babies alive but where possible, I'd rather have my newborn baby's gut receiving what it was meant to receive.

I would if baby was very young or premature, if they were a happy bouncing few months old, then I prob wouldn't. But it would prob have to be from a milk bank with screening.

Yes yes yes, I would.

Formula isn't an option for me. I understand the importance of BM

I'm with Stellarella. Unless there was a medical reason why my baby couldn't have breastmilk, or I had no access to donor breastmilk, then I wouldn't use formula.

Formula for me, is an absolute, 110% last resort for me these days. I just wish I knew then what I know now when DD was a baby.

Honestly, now when I have a good think about it, I think I would only use donated breastmilk from a friend/family member. Someone that was trusted enough by me anyways.

Luckily, I'm not in that position though, breastfeeding has been a breeze for me :D

I would choose to use donor EBM over formula - but I would still have niggles about it. I would be absolutely devastated that I couldn't give bub my own milk; but thats my own issue to deal with, right? Instead I would accept that EBM is healthier for a babies gut than formula is, and I'm sure that if I were ever in that situation (with a reliable safe source of EBM to access) then I'd use the donor route.

It would be hard to deal with though - but I'd do it.

I'd probably give formula. Donor EBM is hard to get, so unless you have access to trustworthy sources, it's not really an option.

I do agree with giving colostrum though. I'd prefer that he get someone else's colostrum than none at all.
