Did anyone go to the May Day Marches around the country?

I went to the one up in QLD and we had a record crowd of over 35,000.

I was matching with the CFMEU people.... it was a pretty good day, free beer (cept I didnt drink :) ) rides, fairy floss, showbags the lot...

What was the marches like in the other states??

Free beer?!!! Could explain the 'record crowd'...
That's all it takes to whip crowds into a frenzy...unions & free beer...very responsible...

I would have gone but had just come home from hosptial.
I know a lot of people who went this year in particular due to the new IR laws.
Looked like a great day!:)

Yep I went. It was my little boy's first May Day, the first of many :D . My husband and I go every year and usually have a great time. I have been on mat leave for 11mths from my job at a Union (ok please don't expect me to enter into any political debates) and it was great to see such a show of consciousness among working people to try to change the current IR laws.
It's always a great family day with heaps of food drinks, (not all beer) and free rides for the kids,:yelclap: some of who would never get to go the the ekka etc due to mum and dad's finances.
I have gone for the last 10 years at least and have never been caught up in any violence or drunken behaviour, I know it happens but the media seem to concentrate on that more than the meaning behind the public holiday we all enjoy.

Not 100% sure...but I thought that each state had Labour Day on a DIFFERENT day to other states...as in, the 1st March was not a public holiday for the other states like it was here...

???

Maybe I'm confused..?

You are right Stacey, no day off adn no marches here. But I could be wrong about marches as I hibernate over winter.
