Please help, i am in need of some advice...
My DS feeds today have gone like this
3am - 60mls
7am- 50mls
9:30am- only 20mls
Im worried his not drinking enough and worried his not getting eveything he needs, wat do i do?
What formula do you have him on? Maybe he doesnt like it or is lactose intolerant? is he fully FF? Does he normally feed like that?

His been on formula for 3 days full time, part time since sunday. His on NAN HA GOLD.
His feeds r like this everyday.
hmm I use the same formula... maybe for peace of mind take him to a GP or child health especially if it has been a few days...it could be just him getitng used to formula or not liking it but im not sure...

ok i'm back:D When you feed him do you persist with the bottle, Jade takes breaks during her feeds sometimes, or she may have wind and appear to be full but she's not so i burp her for a couple minutes then feed her again.
yep, sit there for a good hour trying . Jay burps really well but still wont have more.

I'd keep a diary of his feeds for a week and see how that goes, then if in a week things haven't improved as in his intake hasn't increased.. calculate maybe for the day the amount of mls he has. If his still having tiny amounts in a week maybe ask your child health nurse, but if he's happy, content and sleeping well he may just be a tiny eatter hehe
wat about him not getting everything he needs  wont that effect his growth etc.

While he is happy & alert etc dont stress.
Only start to worry when he isnt wetting his nappies & he becomes sleepy & cranky etc.
Not all babies go by the tin & being that bubs has been bf for all this time it will mean he is feeling fuller quicker on the formula so he is full on a small amount iykwim. You will still probably find he will want to feed every few hours or so & thats fine too.
Dont persist any longer than 30mins with him feeding otherwise you may cause an aversion due to it being stressful for him as he doesnt want the feed.
Go by him just as you would bf he will let you know what he wants & needs.

It's hard to say because every baby is different and since he's been breastfed his intake wouldnt be similar to Jade's cause she has been formula fed for quite a few weeks now. She only started small, she'd have like 60mls a feed but like i said, it will increase in time, if he's alert, looking well, content, happy, smiling, sleeping well those are signs he's getting enough, but it will increase as his stomach expands and his body adjusts to the formula:)
:iagree: Sorry, hope you don't mind me popping in. I agree here, his stomach is probably still small, especially if he was only getting small amounts of breast milk when he was BF. In time his feeds will probably increase as his stomach stretches. Newborns start out with stomachs the size of peas, so it takes a bit of time for feeds to increase in size.
But like the others said, you still need to keep an eye on the wet nappy count and alertness, and if that's ok then he's fine.
I'd keep a diary of his feeds for a week and see how that goes...
This is something I used to do when DD went on to formula. I was always worrying that she wasn't having "the correct amount" for her weight.
I didn't need to worry, she's not exactly wasting away (little chubba). She never has had the suggested "correct amount" and she has always been very alert and had heaps of wet nappies.
You learn over time not to worry about "correct amounts".
Keeping a diary of amounts is a great idea though as if he stops putting on weight then you have it in writing rather than trying to remember it.

Just want to to give u some :hugs: before i reply to ur post, i went through the same issues u have been going through with Jaylen and found it so upsetting/draining/stressful having a baby be so unsettled on the boob. I also switched to formula (around Jaylens age) we had a few hurdles to get over but got there in the end, i hope u do aswell
we went through the same thing when i switched DD over to formula, i figured she wasnt a bring drinker but eventually (over a few months) it increased. I used to stress and try and get her to finish her bottles but like u said, u cant force them to drink, he will have what he wants and stop when he feels full.
I agree that u shouldnt worry to much about what the tin says, Alyssa only just started having the 'reccomended' amount a month ago before that she would have less.
Keep an eye on his nappies and alertness but it sounds like he is just getting used to the different consistancy (formula is alot more filling than bm)
Glad to hear that Jaylen has settled for u :)
