My doctor has put me on Cipramil (sp) - I was just wondering if anyone has taken this whilst breastfeeding and their baby experienced side effects.
I dont know if I am just worrying for nothing but I've been on them for almost a week now and the last couple of days bub has been really cranky and unsettled. Crying heaps and jsut not happy. He would settle really easily by holding him before and now he doesnt. I'm worried it might be to do with the tablets. Should I be worried? Or is this just him changing?

hi
i take effexor and bub has no side effects.
I went and saw a top phsycologist about breastfeeding on meds and he showed me evidence that said the studies proved that the actual amount that passes into your breast milk is extremly minimal.

I rang Mothercare to ask about Cirprimal because I've been prescribed it as well. I was told that an amount passes through your milk and side effects may include drowziness in the baby. To me that was an unacceptable risk. If it makes my baby drowsy it is effecting her brain, and I don't want that, as depressed as I am. Mothercare told me Zoloft is better in terms of the amount that's passed through the milk. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it next week.
I was on ciprimil when my bub was 6 months until 18 months, I had no discernible side effects, I think the big one is drowsiness, so perhaps bub is just having a difficult time with teeth or something, if you continue to be concerned, Zoloft and Paxil are the two 'best' anti depressants for breastfeeding, followed by ciprimil (I was in a different country when I was on them, and could not get those two, but I think I would have started on Zoloft or Paxil if I'd been able to...)
All the best :)
