Do you have any toys (mobiles) etc in your bubs cot?

My DS doesnt have any, I used to have his mobile up but he would wake up screaming all the time. Now I just have it above his porta-cot in the lounge & he loves it.

I went to a friends place, and she has a mobile, dangly toys, one of those kick piano things. Am I depriving my child??? I just think that when he is bed he should be sleeping, i dont want his distracted by toys. On the other hand, i'd like him to stay in his cot for 15 minutes or so after he wakes & be able to entertain himself.

All we have is an aquarium in the side of the cot. It is part of our sleep routine. I always made it clear to my DD that the cot is for sleeping, so no, we don't have toys in the cot. I'll let her when she gets older and wants to take a "comfort toy" to bed.
But atm she's not into that sort of thing.

My little boy takes a teddy to bed. He cuddles it when he is going off to sleep. I tried the mobile thing but he would just squirm around in his bed looking at it so I gave it a miss. You are not depriving your child - as long as there are toys with playtime then that is what matters!

Hi,
We used a mobile for my son when he was younger but also removed it once he started standing and yanking it. As he got older he started sleeping with a couple of teddy bears which he still uses even now hes almost 3....

Im of the opinion also that bed is for sleep and sleep only! I dont wnt him getting distracted by toys and then getting over stimulated and therefor worse to get down to sleep!
I had a mobile over his cot when he was 0-5 mths but it was pointless, he couldnt see it anyways. His room is dark.
At the moment i have his mobile hanging from the roof, so if i put him in there for time out i let some light in and turn it on and sometimes (rarely) he sits there and listens for 10 mins before crying out that "ok mum im all calm and good now" lol.

Your child isnt deprived and if he is becoz of this, then sign me up too! HAHA  Different ppl parent diff ways and dont let any one else's way make u consider your own style!

my 8.5 month old has a bumper, 1 toy attached to cot bars and a mobile hanging over this feet. he sleeps with his security blankets so they are in there to.

he wakes and plays with it all so it works great for us...

when dd2 was about 3-4 months I used to hang colourful sarongs over the end of her cot to give her something to look at as she was drifting off, and when we were out with the stroller and it was sleeptime, I'd try to put it somewhere she could see trees blowing in the wind. She seemed to like that then ... nowadays doesn't make much difference, but I'm still doing it out of habit! No toys though.

We have only just started putting toys in the bed. DD is 12 months and has a cuddle rabbit as a comforter (mainly to chew on when she is teething more than anything else). She also has a rabbit to amuse her when she wakes up in the morning. She doesn't bother with them otherwise, but if there's something there to entertain her when she wakes up she is less likely to scream:thumbsup:

My children have comforters Ds a teddy and DD a blanket. Other than that bed is for sleeping and I feel toys distract them from this especially as they get older. do have a mobile for the cot which I put up after bath times or when changing ds as it keeps dd happy then take it down for sleeping. A few weeks ago my 2yo ds wnated to take 2 other animals to bed we let him but after a few nights he would take 2 hours to go to sleep until I realised he was having conversations with all the animals so we now we are back to just him one favourite teddy.
