View Full Version : Jolly Jumper how long do you let bubs jump?
Just wondering how long you leave bubs in the jolly jumper? I don't have the instructions but think it is 1/2 hour a day? What do others do that use the jolly jumper? Is it harmful to leave longer?

I just leave dd in there until she gets sick of it, which is usually less that half an hour. Im not sure if it can harm them at all if you leave them in there a long time.
I will sometimes put DS in whilst I have a shower, so 10 minutes roughly & again when I am trying to eat tea (witching hour) so maybe another 15 minutes. I try not to over do it, his legs are too little still.

until the rope part snapped with DD in it a few days ago I would let her be in it for around 5-7 minutes at a time, no more as I've heard its bad for there legs in a similar way walkers/bouncey things etc are because of the unnatural position it puts there legs in... never using it again tho!! Incredibly dangerous things they are!
Mine doens't have a 'rope thing' it has a spring and chain so it can't break (I hope). My DS doens't seem to get tired in it and laughs and bounces but I have limited him to 1/2 hour a day. Maybe that is too long.
I wouldn't worry about bub being in it for half an hour at a time...tho I probably wouldn't do that every day.
My DD is 5.5mths and some days she goes in hers for around 30mins in the morning while I shower and dress DS and myself, then another 30min (maybe more :o ) in the evenings when I am making dinner, only if DH isn't home to look after her tho. I'd say she would be in it no more than 2.5hrs a week.
Maybe the rope part that broke on Charmzys' DD's one was the part between where bub 'sits' and the plastic bar thingy  Does that make sense?
Whatever part it was Charmzy, maybe you should write to the company and complain. How old is the jolly jumper? Mine is almost 7yrs old and is now being used for bub #3...should I be inspecting more it to make sure it's not going to break?

i loved my jolly jumper and would leave my little one in it until he got sick of it and wanted to get out, honestly i dont think it does them any harm, and to be honest i think it actualy help my little man with his walking because it helped make his legs a little stronger. zack is way to big for it now but he used to go in it everyday because it was the only thing that kept him entertained longer then 15 minutes. we have a large dog and when ever he would walk pass zack in the jumper his tail would whip him across the head so i tryed to limit his time in it due to that

Hi Deb!
I was worried about how much time Claire was spending in hers. I honestly think she could happily jump around all day!! 10 mins was nowhere near enough for her. On the box mine says to start them off only for about 10 mins at a time & that it shouldn't be used for long periods (whatever you interpret that to mean!) I think they are just covering themselves.
I guess it's like anything - some people claim it's bad for them, some claim it's not. You just have to do what you think is right. At least, that's the conclusion I've come to!
I have had Claire in there for well over half an hour at a time because she was in there having fun & did not want to get out. So as a compromise, I don't put her in it every day. In fact, I think she really only gets in there about once a week or so at the moment.
