View Full Version : 21 month gap
Those of you who have around a 21 month age gap between 1 & 2, what was the positives and negatives.
I have worked out this would mean my DD#1 would be 12months when I fall pregnant, did others wait until the 12 month/ 1st birthday mark?
Thanks heaps:detective:
I have 20m gap between mine. Since my dd has started to crawl they get on really well and play quite well together, which gives me a bit of time to catch up on things.
The down side is that I have two in nappies and they both tend to wake which can be quite hard. Overall I love the gap, it has its ups and downs, but I think that they will be quite close friends in the end.
One thing to keep in mind, they may end up in the same class at school ( I didn't think of this!) ie. grade 1 and 2!

Bubbybean was 12months when we started trying and I fell pg straight away... I am now 37 weeks but my littleman is obsessed with babies and kisses my belly and is just adorable so the pregnancy hasn't been that bad.. thanks to wonderful hubby...
but as for actually having the two I will be watching this thread for tips!
20 months between my girls.
The biggest issue for me was having two in nappies - DD2 arrived just as DD1 was ready to toilet train, but I thought it would be a wasted exercise with the new baby etc.
Besides the cost, you always find number one wants a nappy change when number two does etc ... and unfortunately, number one found taking off her own nappy an excellent attention getter. :D
The only other issue - and a very minor one, really - was that Annika was very young (18 months) when we moved her into a big bed, so that Sofia could have the cot. (We did it a few months before DD2 arrived so that Annika didn't link the two.)
The way the birthdays fall, my two will be in successive years at school IF I let them go like that; I'll probably hold Sofia back a year since she is a March baby, and very small for her age (so far). That way, they get a chance at a bit of independence and selfhood, rather than always being those sisters.
Advantages - I love the way they play together - it's been so much easier to entertain Sofia than Annika at the same age - she just wants to play with her big sister! Annika is young enough to enjoy Sofia growing up, and lately is actively trying to teach her things. And maybe one day Annika will decide that sharing her toys isn't so bad after all.

but as for actually having the two I will be watching this thread for tips! That is what Josh did when I was pregnant with Sam.
I found it hard when Sam was sleeping as Josh would want his brother up again after awhile and would go in and try to wake him up  But other than that all was fine until now as they are both at the not sharing stage .
Good luck with it all and it might be hard at the start but it is worthwhile in the end.
I have just found out that i will be having about a 21 month gap between my two. My DD is 13 months, and I think i'm about 5 weeks pregnant! :):)
Will be watching closely for any tips!
My only concern is that my 2 will be only 1 year apart at school.... and i'll therefore get to spend less one -on-one time with baby number 2. But I guess there'll be the benefit of having a big sis to hang out with!
good luck!

I have a 20 month gap .
So far It's been great , I thought It would be so much harder !
My 23month old helps me look after baby she helps me give bub bottles, helps when I change nappies(hands me the wipes),helps bath bub & gives her so many kisses & hugs & bub smiles at her & makes my toddler laugh - It's beautiful to watch .
Sometimes I have to be careful though cause my toddler will squeeze my bubs arm hard when she thinks I'm not watching - At times I think she was slightly jealous but I think she just had to get used to having bub around .
There are def more positives than negatives !!
I'm glad we have a small age gap.:cloud9:
