Smaller than normal foetal pole

Hello,
I am 7 weeks PG tomorrow and had my first scan on Tues. Because I am IVF and have history of m/c, my Doctor wanted to get an early scan. I thought all was well when we saw a nice gestational sac, yolk sac, foetal pole, and even a normal heartbeat! However, once I received the report, it said the g-sac was good at 6 wk, 4 days (exactly what I was) but the foetal pole was only 4.5 mm, only 6 weeks 0 days.

Has anyone had a smaller foetus that DIDN'T end up in m/c??

I am so scared. I just couldn't bear it if we lost another baby...

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

My sister in law had that for her whole pregnancy. Her DD is now two weeks old.
She was also 100% certain of her periods, ovulation etc, but she still always measured behind. At her first scan (I think at around 11weeks pregnant) she was told the baby was 5 days smaller than dates. At her 19 week scan she was told bub was 14 days smaller. They even adjusted her due date. Turns out bub came around her oiginal due date anyway.

I had multiple early scans (5 weeks, 7 weeks, 8 weeks) and I was never aware of a foetal pole measurement - the only important thing is the heartbeat as far as I know!

When are you going to see your doctor with the results? She/he will be able to interpret and explain it to you, but IMO I don't think you should be worried at all (I know that's impossible, I was a huge worrier even when I was told everything was fine)... :hugs:

Absolutely :wave: last time my son measured at least a week behind but e came out fine at 6lb 10oz on his due date (by my LMP). I was certain of my LMP.

This one is measuring 6 days behind too and so far so good :yes:

I just make small babies.
