Ok so I have come down with yet another head cold.... but this time I want to try knock it on the head before it leads to yet another infection! as I don't want to end up on antibiotics again!

I have a mega runny nose,.... gone through and entire box of tissues and a roll of toilet paper since 8 this morning. A slightly tight head iykwim. And a REALLY scratchy, sore throat.

So is there anything I can take that is safe and will help to clear it all up?

TIA:flowerz:

i have the same as you...went to the doc yesterday and she told me to do one of those saline nasal rinses. she said it cleans everything out and helps stop bacteria and nasties growing which in turn cause infection. Also just lots of water to flush yourself out and rest. Ive also been just using some fess nasal spray to keep everything "rinsed" reularly....

at the first sign of anything like that i have a dose of echinacea [i'm pretty sure that's how you spell it!]
and then keep having it 2 or 3 times a day until it's gone. and that is definitely safe during pregnancy.

i'm not sure if these are safe for pregnancy so i'd ask first, but before i got pregnant and had colds i took some pills [don't know the name sorry] which...like..'dried' me up, they stop your nose from running eyes from running and just make you feel not so blocked up. i took them until my cold went away and it was just so much easier to get on.
but you have to drink heaps of water, because all that dries up too!!!
hope you feel better soon!

maybe gargling some salt water or mouthwash as well? that would help with bacteria in the throat i imagine... i might go to that too :)

you might already know as well but worth a mention, my doc said to me at any sign of fever, take panadol straight away. i told her i was avoiding taking anything and she said thats fine but when it comes to fever, a high temp is a lot worse for baby than taking panadol...

Hi there

Sorry to hear you are sick. I have just started getting over 2 weeks of a sinusy/flu-like thing and was told to take an antihistamine called Avil. I really didn't want to take anything but was told they were fine so maybe ask at the chemist when you go.

Hope you feel better soon. It sucks to be sick and pregnant.

Ok thanks girls.

When the partner gets home from work I'll get him to take me up the chemist then and get something as I'm a bit too dizzy to drive! Damn these iron levels as well! :dizzy:

Here I was thinking you had to go see a doctor and couldn't get anything over the counter!
