Amnios?

I'm booked in to have an amnio on Sept 1st in Perth, does anyone who's had one before know if your DH can be with you when it's done?

I've had two done at King Edward, the first time my mum was with me and the second time hubby was with me. The room is pretty big and they do an ultrasound of bub first, there is a seat right by you for hubby!

very painful?

Mmm..I don't think it was really painful, you do feel quite alot of pressure though. It is pretty quick.

Make sure you rest up after as well, make hubby cook you dinner ;)

The staff at KEMH are wonderful and will help you feel at ease prior to the procedure. The sonographer we had also gave us a little picture to take away with us. They have a TV screen if you want to look without seeing the needle (although I didnt look at all) and you're all draped up. The doctor will tell you when she is going to insert the needle but surprisingly it doesnt sting like I thought it was going to. The only way I can describe it is if you have an "inny" stick your finger right into your belly button until you get that weird sensation - and that's how it feels.

You'll find they usually prefer you do have someone with you as you need to rest well afterwards and you might need some emotional support. Even though it didnt hurt, I cried!! :laughing:

how long did it take to get the results? It will be three weeks from the results from the bloods so really dont want to wait much longer to find out 100%

We got the preliminary results in 48 hours(however that doesn't include the weekend, we had to wait all weekend plus a few days! Ugh!) and then the full results 2 weeks after that.

It was only a few months ago that I had it done, my NT results were 1:5 for downs syndrome, but the tests came back clear and my babe is 100% healthy :)

They are wonderful there! :) They didn't give me any pics to take home, but after I got the positive results, I got 4 pictures in the mail :)

our nt results were 1.4mm which both the sonographer and our ob said were good but it was the bloods that gave us the 1 in 20 result

the more I read the less stressed I am, I've read about readings in overweight and/or diabetic women being incorrect and I had read heaps here about women like yourself getting 1 in 5 and 1 in 2 from the scan and/or bloods and the amnio came back fine

did you have to pay extra to get the prelim results
