I have a DD who is nearly 4 and a 8mth old DS and we are moving west shortly and have been told by other people who live on the property that home schooling is the way education goes (at least for the first few years) out there, but i have no idea about it. My DD is quite advanced and was going to have to go into a gifted and talented program when she started school as she would have been too far ahead of her class mates. I thought i was confused about schooling her in the city but i have no clue about it in the country.
Any advice for a newbie?
Cheers Romana

If you are choosing to HomeSchool because 'that is the way it goes' then I would be looking into as many education alternatives as possible.
I think that home-schooling purely because of location or convenience will not work.
You need to truly believe it is best for your children.

It is a locality thing, we are going to be a fair distance to the nearest town. I am not sure what other forms of education options there is out there, i guess i will find out more when the move is finished. All i know is that kids get sent to boarding school for high school, and i really do not want to do that to my children.

You do not HAVE to do anything.
Who cares what other people are doing??
I'm sure there would be a primary school close enough or a bus route close enough to make is reasonable to travel to school each day.

Hi
With a child that is only 4 and gifted there is no point getting concerned at this stage about finding a school.
Whether homeschool is what you would intend to do long term this would be a really great option for your daughter right now.
Homeschooling can be so much fun for the child as well as the parent - so this may be a really exciting factor to your new move. It's all positive and a win-win situation if you ask me.
Particularly if your child is gifted there is so much you can make available for her to further her interests and give her a love of learning right now.
I think you should make more enquires with regards to your opportunity to homeschool your children - you will probably find that it will be something you grow to love and may consider it for a more permanent option for your children.
iam more than happy to offer any suggestions and possible materials if you would like.
Just drop me a personal message and i will send some info to you.
Regards
Tracy:)

Not sure where overhere you are moving to but with the really isolated people they can use school of the air and school of distance and isolated education. Both are run by the education department here in WA. If you are just rural then there will be a bus that will take your kids to the nearest town.
We choose to home school our eldest who is kindy age because she is gifted too. She would fit into a year 1 class if she was at school. We have been rural too, until we moved last week and i can sympathise with the distance thing.
If you need any WA specific info please don't hesitate to PM me. Always happy to help!
