My biggest waste was the damn jolly jumper that part SNAPPED a cpl of days ago with Isobella in it after under 10 uses ever!!!! Would NEVER buy one again, havent called the manufacturer yet but I certainly will be! Her head was SO close to hitting the tiles cos of it!!!
Can't really think of anything other than that. Some people don't like there baby baths because they 'grow out of them' so fast... but Bella is 10 months now and still uses hers, she just sits in her bath seat in it :)

Gosh charmzy, I thought the Jolly Jumper was one of the best buys I ever purchased. I would definately phone the manafacturer because that is rare it would break.
I would say an automatic swing was the worst...

God Charmzy, that is terrible!

I had a Domaro Carriboi sling, and I used it with both of my bubs. Until they're about 6m and too heavy. Great to do your groceries and have both your hands free.
Baby bath - bub#2 grew out of it in about 3 weeks. There are alternatives maybe other people have used and could explain them.
Portacot - was mainly used as a barricade to our stairs.
Baby rocker - neither would sit in it happily.
all those J&J products. Ended up using baby oil for cradle cap and the bath washes. The rest of the products sat in a container until Monday when I threw them out (3y after purchase)
And baby wipes - found they left a rash on bub#1's bottom so traded them for water and cotton wool. (and they're so darn expensive too!)
Funny what works for one bub doesn't for another.
The battery operated swing I bought from Ebay is the best buy :smiliedance: , my bubs goes in it every day and loves it. I put him in it when he is grumpy and sleepy and then he is quite happy and has a little nap.
Jolly Jumper is also very good, my bubs loves it.
The worst purchase for me was the bassinette on a stand as used it for 10 weeks, if I had a newborn again I would get one of those tetra beds to put in the cot instead as you can use it for alot longer or just put bubs in the cot to begin with (that is if you are comfortable not having him/her in your room). I used the stand for the bath though so not a total waste!
Those play gyms with arches and toys are also great for when they are little.
I love our jolly jumper too, jake thinks its the best thing in the world
Maybe you got a faulty one, i would definately be ringing too!
We bought a baby seat for the bath, that he grew out of way too quickly, they only go up to 8 kilos, but DS was very long.
That would probably be it, oh except for the J&J products. I stocked up on everything and they are still sitting in a box 11 months on!

An Electric Steraliser (over $150 bucks down the gurgler).
Give me a $20 microwave steraliser anyday!
Bassinet. I used it once. At least a friend is now getting good use out of it now.
Jolly Jumper. DS hated it.
2nd car seat. yes its come in handy a couple of times when my cars broken down  thats another story but thats what? nearly $400 odd for a car seat we've used a couple of times. Just doesn't make sense.

the window socks for your car to block out the sun on bub. i found they really reduced my vision when you needed to use thoseback windows (eg changing lanes, turning left and watching oncoming traffic, etc) and as soon as the sun went down, i found them dangerous because there was hardly any visibility through them. i told the guy who sold them to me about my experience with them , and he was like 'yeah.... i know......' and i said 'why do you sell them then if you think they're not good?'.
can't remember his answer. portacot for me was an absolute life saver.

For #1, I had a Sister Browne's Baby Safety Bath. Lasted a few weeks before she was so big it was useless.
A dummy. I was advised to get one for #1, and she would not use it. I should have saved the few $'s.
A Kaneson Breastpump. The least useful device I have EVER owned. I bought an Avent Isis instead when I had #2, and it is BRILLIANT.
electric breast pump.... spent over 100 bucks on it.. and only used it once..

funny, I was going to say "breastpump" ... and Avent Isis is the one I got! But I just could not pump AT ALL - absolutely zero milk came out. It was hands or nothing for me (and a right pain that was, too!)
also another vote for jolly jumper - I don't know if I was doing it wrong but it seemed like such a performance getting her into it, and getting it just the right height and everything, and then she'd have about 2 bounces and get sick of it

I bought a hammock which converted into a jolly jumper and ds hated it (due to reflux) so that was a waste of $ 300
Im hoping bub no.2 will like it just so I can get my #$'s worth:D
This thread just goes to prove what works for one bub, may not work for another. My best buy would have to be the automatic swing...it was a god sent in those early days.
Worst buy would have to be a breastpump...only used it a few times and DD won't take EBM anyway...its gotta come straight from the source...

Oh yes, breastpump - Bought a Pur one. Put it in the microwave steriliser, and melted all the pieces - so I bought another one. Anyway - Pointless as I had no milk. Kept it to use when #2 was born. #2 went straight on the bottle but wanted to use it to relieve my swollen, aching boobs and the stupid thing had no suction and didn't suck out a drop.
Oh, another thing (gee, I'm a bitter one, aren't I?) Don't spend heaps of money on clothes from pumpkin patch, grace bros (myer) djs, fred bare etc, as they grow so quick. I had heaps of clothes (bought as presents) that were hardly worn.
Kmart, Big W are great for cheap/practical clothes.

My biggest waste of money were cutesy little newborn baby girl dresses....I was a total sucker for them when I was pregnant.
She hardly wore them when she was born because a) we hardly left the house because we were too tired to bother and b) if she did wear them, by the time she'd been strapped in the carseat and we got her out again the outfit looked like she had been in it for three days. They were also a total pain in the butt to get a floppy newborn in and out of.
Total waste of money!

thanks for the advice ladies,I was just about to buy a breast pump, I might hire my pump to start with just in case.
I just love my automatic swing would not of done without it.
My worst buy a swivel bath seat, my little man loves a bath but hated the bath seat with a passion.
another big waste of money was a tea tree bassinet matteress what a peice of .............:shame: I just did not like it and he only stayed in the bassinet for 3 weeks anyway that was a waste waste waste for me.

Change table. Never used it, just changed DS on our bed.
Breast pump, used it a couple of times but was really unecessary. I found if I did go out she would take formula and then clean up the overflow with her next feed.
Baby bath, almost too long for it right from birth, thankgoodness it was attached to a changetable - for me that is a godsend. I use it at least 5 times a day for nappy changes and getting dressed.
I didnt bother with a bassinet this time after my first child grew out of hers so quickly, instead saving the money to buy a nicer cot.
I also agree with controlling yourself when it comes to the cute yet expensive babywear that you just cant resist when pregnant. I got carried away with my DD1 and there were loads that she either never wore or wore just the once. It definitely did not warrant the money spent. This time around I bought maybe one or two expensive outfits and made sure that I didnt make the mistake of dressing her in it only when we went out, you need to get as much wear out of them so they became everyday wear, even then DD2 only wore a few outfits max 3 times.....

I purchased a breast pump and it is still in teh box. I paid a bit for it too what a waste. My baby bath and and seat were mt best ever buys and will not be able to use them as I will have a new born and a 2 yearold.
DS1 used the electric swing for about 3 seconds so that was a waste.
Tetra beds are great I never had a bassinette and am glad now I never got one.
