Hi

I would be interested to hear from anyone who went to RHW Randwick. How did you find the experience? I have my first appointment there in a month's time :)

Cheers

I have had laproscopic surgery there twice in the last year and was right next to the maternity ward... Both experiences were pleasant (given the circumstances) though I doubt this is what your after... Nonethess a positive report from myself

I'm going there for all my prenatal appointments and things. I've heard nothing but good about them so far :)

I had my first DD there 3 years ago and can't recommend them highly enough. I had a wonderful middy for all my appointments and during delivery and my stay in the maternity ward I only had one midwife that I clashed with - she was very young and very new at it.

My DP stayed every night I was in maternity - all 2 of them  - and the staff were great about it. He would go to work and come back to stay with bub and I at 2am after he finished, as long as he was quiet coming back they said it was no probs that he came that late. It was $10 a night for them to put a fold out cot in my room for him but you can only do that if you are lucky enough to get a single room or if you are a private patient and book one. The other rooms are doubles so you only share with one other person which I thought was fantastic (had to share with 3 others at the hospital I had DD2 at).

They were also great about listening to what I wanted during my labour and did not push me to "get moving" but let me go at my own pace. They left us alone pretty much - until we pushed the buzzer then they came running!!

I had both my boys there. 1st time i went private patient and 2nd time in Jan this year i went public and i couldnt fault the care i recieved especially after birth. The midwives were all fantastic and more than happy to help in anyway possible AAA+++
This year i took bottles and formula to feed bub because i had no milk the first time and was too stressful to repeat and they were wonderful and supportive

Thanks Cass, Kelly and Beany. That's really encouraging. I ended up going there today for a dating scan. Staff were excellent. The scan showed a possible problem with the fetus (enlarged bladder) which upset me a little, but the doctor & technician put me at ease. Having another scan in 2 weeks to check if it has improved.

I am only new to this but I saw your query (although it's over a month old now) and wanted to let you know how happy I was with the RHW. I had fraternal twins (boy & girl) in Dec 05. The hospital was EXCELLENT! I was a public patient and travelled 25min from Caringbah to Randwick for all my visits but it was worth it. I saw the same ob every time "Dr Rob Buist" and I he was great. Treated me like a private patient in a public hospital. Everything about the hospital was perfect from the staff to even the food believe it or not. I had one twin in Special Care for over a week there too and they were great. I have four kids now (my twins were supposed to be no.3 and then twins were a surprise) but if I were to brave another (highly doubt it) I would go back to the RHW. Unreal!!! To the point I even wrote thank you letters to the ward, special care unit etc and I never did that for my other two births.

I was very impressed with the care given, especially by the midwives. I must say, the level of support was excellent. I was a public patient there and could not fault it, there was also a wonderful onsite lactation consultant and a breastfeeding support clinic (if that is what you want to do). If you do not want to breastfeed you may find it difficult.

To those that have had their babies there: the information booklet says that women not intending to breastfeed must bring formula, bottles, teats and sterilising equipment. I would prefer to breastfeed - must I still bring this equipment just in case my milk doesn't come in?

Great ... now I'll have dreams of women in strange uniforms attacking my boobs.

Goodness, that sounds rude. Maybe I should charge admission to my dreams ...

Hi
I took a few bottle and formula, the midwives gave me a miltons kit to use whilst there. Only reason i took them was i know i couldnt breast feed the first time (lack of milk) and lucky i did as my milk didnt even show its face this time.

Amazing place!

I spent 6 weeks there in the Antenatal Ward, then in the Acute Care ICU, then finally the Maternity Ward.

My son spent a week in the Newborn Care Centre. All wards, Doctors and Nursing Staff were amazing. Especially Dr Siobhan Lee. Thank your lucky stars if you get her!

Really? I didnt know you needed to be local. Can someone confirm this?

I live in the eastern suburbs anyway but was planning to move to north shore before TTC. I've been pretty much set on RHW after speaking to one of the middies from there at dinner once.

Yes, witherwings, you need to be a local to be able to go public to RHW. I emailed them a while ago asking about it and unfortunately, they wouldn't accept me.
