Well after having a stomach bug and being in hospital for for a few days, and not going into labour, I thought we had this baby would hang out for the whole 40 weeks.
Not so unfortunately

On Friday morning at 6:45am I picked up my 18 month old from his slumber and walked into the lounge room, when suddenly it felt like I had wet my pants  I soon discovered that it wasn't my bladder that was leaking. Lucky I had repacked my bag from the previous week, and was set to go pretty much.
I thought it was a little too early (34 weeks), but was ready to have this baby. I got to the hospital and things started moving, I was having contractions every ten mintues for about two hours, they weren't going to stop the labour, and as my first labour was only 4 hours everyone was thinking we would have a baby by lunch time......

Then it all stopped

Because my membraines were definately ruptured I was given anti biotics, had more blood tests and was sent down to anti natal after being in delivery suite all day 'just in case'. And was told that because bub was prem they wouldn't help things along, and it could be hours, days or even weeks, and I would have to stay in hospital till this baby decided the time was right. Not happy I finally went to sleep. At 12:03am I started getting regular contractions again. "Thank goodness" I thought "I won't be waiting weeks". I had an exam and things were not happening I was still only 1.5 cm dialated. I took some panadine, and went back to sleep, and the contractions stopped again :banghead:
At about 7 am my contractions were back I rang DH just in case, and by about 9am they were regular about every 5 mins or and getting very strong.
They sent me back up to delivery Suite and I laboured there until 12:49 pm.
They were so busy that my brilliant midwife Wayne (yes a man) had to keep running between myself and about four other ladies, and only just had enough time to put on his gloves before I had to push. I'm glad I could rely on my own instincts to know when I had to push, because Scott had to ring the bell exactly when I needed to push to get Wayne back in. Two or three big pushes and he was out, tiny and blue, and a boy!
The doctors checked him over, gave him some oxgen. I was given the injection for the placenta, and I pushed that out without any dramas. Then Wayne wrapped Lachy up for a quick cuddle, and photo, and then he was taken to NICU with Scott, while I waited to have a shower.

Wayne came in after he had taken Lachlan to NICU to thank me for delivering so quickly, to make his job a bit easier

It seemed like forever before I saw my little bub. It was so sad to see him hooked up to a drip with all the tubes and things, but I knew it was what was needed.

Little Lachlan came into our world, a bit sooner then we would have liked, but healthy and with apgar scores of 9 and 9, weighing 2025 grams or around 4 lb 7, and an official labour of 2 hours and 55 mins, but over 30 hrs after my waters broke.

I did it without any pain relief, and I just kept telling myself, when the pain is this bad it means Baby is almost here, and that gave me the strength to keep breathing through the pain. My beautiful husband was rubbing my back through every contraction, and I couldn't have done it without him

Lachlan is doing really well so far, a little jaundice, so not many cuddles at the moment, as he's in an incubator and under lights. His blood sugar levels were a little low, so he's on a drip, being given anti biotics, and being tube fed formula until my milk comes in. He doesn't need any oxygen though, so hopefully he'll be out of the incubator soon, and free to cuddle whenever I please

Another update...

He has now been moved into the last bay before home :smiliedance: and has no more monitors, and just has the feeding tube. So all we have to do is get him feeding well, and he'll be coming home!! He's still too sleepy though to have proper feeds  But hopefully things will change for the better over the next week or so

I should update...

Lachlan came home on 9/05/06 doing 4 tube feeds 4 breastfeeds, so it's a lot of hard work, but we are happy to have him home, and so much earlier then we had expected. Now we've just got to get some fat on him, and get him feeding well so we can get rid of his feeding tube :hugs:
