View Full Version : 5 month sleeper (non?)
My bubby boy is a fair sleeper, he sleeps fairly good during the day but is still not sleeping through the night.
He wakes mostly once, but sometimes can wake up to 3 times a night. He is fully breastfed and in the 75th percentile of the growth charts (so definitely not underweight). Am I spoiling him and just offering him the breast when he doesn't really need it? Or is this normal?
He is in his own cot, in his own room.
Sometimes he falls asleep on the breast and then when I put him in the cot, he wakes up screaming and will only be comforted by the breast again. Is he addicted to my BOOBS?!?
I go back to work in another 3 months, and I really hope that we will all be sleeping through the night by then:) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi
My DD is 5.5mths and she still doesn't sleep thru the night every night. Some nights she will sleep from about 6:30pm right thru to 6am, but other nights she wakes at 4 or 5am for a feed...she is formula fed...other nights, like the last few, she has gone to bed at 6:30pm, then woken at 1am, then up for the day by no later than 7am. My DD is not a big eater, she is having 4 bottles a day of 180mls...the tin recommends 5 feeds of 240mls.
Could he be getting cold? I find when DD wakes at 5am it is more because shes cold and needs the cuddles, more than the actual feed, to help her settle and go back to sleep.
Have you started solids yet? Maybe something is not agreeing with him?
It's late...I'm sure there are plenty of other things it could be. Some bubs just need the night feed longer than others. He will outgrow it, then you'll miss spending the time with him with no interruptions.

Not sure if you have read anything about sleep props. That is something that helps them to get to sleep which they then need to transition from 1 sleep cycle to the next. If bubs is falling asleep on the boob regularly then he will need the boob again when he wakes during the night between sleep cycles to get back to sleep. Same if they have a dummy and it falls out.
Not sure what your situation is but perhaps this can shed some light on the problem for you.
Both my DD & DS have slept through the night from 6 weeks and self settled. Sorry i know that doesn't help but i think putting themselves to sleep is a key to putting themself back to sleep.
Also does he wake the same time? If so this could be his internal clock getting stuck and he might not actually be hungry. If so you could try leaving him to cry for 5 mins then putting him on his side and patting his back until he goes back to sleep. Or i have also heard of people setting their alarm 15 mins before bubs normally wakes, going into their room and rousing them a little and then patting them back off to sleep after 3 nights they are no longer waking at this time.
Good luck!
