View Full Version : Does anyone know . . . . .
I'm hoping this is the right section to be posting this question.
My husband & I both have food intolerences to varying foods & we've started our 7mth DS on solids. I'm wondering if I need to hold off introducing the foods that my hubby & I are intolerent to until after 12 mths or not. A few of them wont be a problem, such as alcohol & chocolate, but it's the eggs & tomotoes that I'm more interested in introducing.
If anyone has any experience with introducing foods to their children that the parents are intolerent to, any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Your definitely best off waiting until after 12 months for trying eggs - even for non-allergic parents they recommend waiting til after 12 months. or even 2 years - because then they can tell you if anything hurts.
Both my kids suffer allergies and its best to get it checked out properly, I got told off by my paed for not giving DS1 gluten before testing!
I would recommend getting allergy testing done - skin prick or blood tests. A paediatrician or paediatric allergy specialist can organise it.

it's all about food sensitivity
Good luck
From what I have learn't from our journey with food intolerances you would be fine to try tomatos especially if your bub hasn't shown any intolerances so far. Tomatos are a big no for DD3 but we only know that because we have tried.
Good luck :)

Its a tricky one! I'd ask a childrens doctor and get booked in for allergy testing.
My husband has mild intolerances but I have not hesitated in giving baby new things to try (except for eggs till she was 1 year old). His diet is so limited and now is the time to get them trying new foods so they aren't fussy.
AT first I gave her basics that he can eat then once she was on 3 meals a day and doing well, I'd slowly introduce a food and wait for a reaction. I think she was about 9/10 months old when I started giving her things he reacts to.
If you do that you might be able to tell if she has a reaction to anything.
That said, if you get severe reactions from certain foods, I'd get the ok first.
RE Tomatoes, they tend to react in young babies weather they have intolerances or not. I'd stick to bland foods to start with.

Allergies are not always hereditary, but as there is a risk from BOTH parents I would keep the egg out as long as possible.
Do make sure to get protein into bub in another food though. :)
ETA: Tomatoes are very acidic. Do steer away from them unless they're cooked in a bolognese sauce or something since like I said they are acidic.
It is easier to stick with a basic set or veggies and toast mainly for the first 6 months of solids.
