For as long as I can remember (well I remember when B105, was actually 4IP), I have listened to Triple J.

Have woken up to Helen and Mikey, and Adam Spencer with various hosts. On the way home from work I continued to listen to Merrick and Rosso etc. On my days off I loved to listen to the Morning Show, Hack's predecessor.

Now, I just can not tolerate the music. It is full of Hip Hop, R&B and other noise that my husband comments on when he walks into the room. We have had the following conversation on a number of occasions.

He says "What is that noise?"

I say "I don't know, did I turn the fry-pan off?'

He says "I think it is the radio"

I say "Really? Better put it over to AM".

I was bought up on a staple diet of the ABC both radio and television. I have always enjoyed ABC TV but have strayed to the commercial channels on many occasion. However, I cannot believe I have been actively listening to the local ABC station including the Listener Feedback Line. I have even asked my children to be quiet in the back of the car so I can listen to an interesting 'topic' being discussed on the radio.

Where will it end? Is it going to end with me becoming a lifetime listener, becoming a suburban correspondent or a person who actually leaves listener feedback?

Do I need to play more illegally downloaded Cd's or just accept the inevitable.

My only consolation is that if I was in Sydney I would be listening to Adam Spencer again in the mornings.

I miss Mikey and Adam, since Adam and Will left, I've turned to commercial breakfast radio. I feel so dirty....:gloomy:

There is no hope for you - you are doomed to dullness and crankiness for eternity.

You will soon be listening to John Laws and Alan Jones.

Then you will be dialing them, saying "Yes, John, It's Sopolicha, first time caller, long time listener."

Accept your fate and move on.

Now will you clear your bl**dy PM box?

You're allowed to play anything other than a Playschool or childrens song CD in the car????? I'm jealous. :(

No No No. There will be absolutely no John Laws or anyone of that ilk at all.

I have thought about it and I have decided that the time will come that I will graduate to a caller.

It will start innocently enough on the night time quiz.

Then I will progress to the number plate game in the morning.

Then I will leave feedback about a controversial topic on the feedback line, where you can say your piece unchallenged.

Then I will be that old crank from ........................

Then I will be barred completely from calling the station.

It's a natural evolution.

A few tips I have gleaned from older callers... always give your middle name, not the name that you are known by and never take the opposing side from the host...you always lose because they just talk over you.

I'll listen for your call.

No, I am not............ The CD normally comes on as soon as the car is out of the garage and heading backwards down the driveway. It is pointless trying to listen, so I may as well listen to Nursery Rhymes in peace.

Perfect............my middle name is Dorothy, how apt. I have spent thirty something years burdened with it. Now I finally know why I copped my grandmothers name.

Absolutely perfect! A sign from above that you were destined to be a caller on talk back radio.

And it explains completely why you are an OCSC! Dorothy

There is not a Wizard of Oz joke you could tell that I have not already heard.

I have nearly called in on two recent occasions. The first was where an older chap commented on streakers during sporting events and how they lead to rapes being committed........because people watching the streaker could get the urge and 'take' a woman.

The second was about cloth nappies. I am definitely qualified for the latter topic.

It is only a matter of weeks before I am compelled to call. I know the number now.

Yes, because I know that when I see a naked man running around a sportsfield being chased by security the first thing I'm thinking is "where can I ambush some unsuspecting bloke"

You must give a written (or cyber) undertaking to report back when you have made your first call.

Do yourself a favour and avoid any emotive topics ... truly, the frustration of getting your view across or the satisfaction from being heard will entice you deeper into their web.

Be strong! Don't go towards the light!

Funny because the next caller in line (see I even know the lingo) said "If you saw the streaker the last thing on your mind would be sex" To which I laughed out loud. That in itself is sad really.

OK. Here is a thought. Are yesterdays talkback radio callers, today's forum posters?

MammaMia

Maybe they are more today's bloggers.

Anyways, I'm hearing rain on the tiles and that signals to me that it is time to curl up under my doona with my sleeping husband.

Maybe you could start with requesting a love song after dark, Sop?

I'll leave it with you to think of who you want to dedicate it to.

Night all.

I don't know about Bloggers. I think they should be reading Trixie Belden or Sweet Valley High.

I could tell the line up for night time ABC......................

No love songs on good old local Aunty.

Tonight it is Star Stuff. I need to listen to it, because my brother (a confirmed News Radio listener) will wish to discuss the topics of the show with me.

Will take my sucking baby with me.

I went to bed early last night and missed this conversation but have to say - I too miss Helen and Mikey and Adam and Wil (saw Adam in the Qantas Club once, back when I was all corporate and travelled and had such memberships, and was most thrilled to see him but too cool to approach.) Now I either listen to nursery rhymes, Wiggles or Bob the Builder. If the kids aren't in the car and I actually realise that I can turn off their music I listen to one of my CD's. Can't bring myself to listen to commercial radio after all these years of scorning it. So - what station is ABC talk back on........? Could be the new station for me to.

Come over Theresa, the water is fine. It is 612 4QR. They even play Bernard Fanning.

It is not all talk back, they do have some interesting interviews. The best thing is no ads. (Just a lot of silly old buggers)

Hmmmm...is that a (gasp) AM channel??? Oh dear....oh well - if they play Bernad Fanning it can't be too bad. I just can't come at Radio National yet. Will test the waters later and see how we go.

I too miss Helen and Mikey, they were the golden years of Triple J.

I'm turning into my father, radio wise, I find myself listening to ABC news radio most of the time - includes BBC world service, and stuff from Public Radio in the US. Excellent international news coverage. No music at all. A very strange choice, given that I used to have triple J on constantly.

Oh no, it is not Radio National, that is a serious graduation. It is just the local ABC radio station.

I do like News Radio, I like to listen to that at night after I have had my cup of Horlicks, put my neck to knee flannelette nightie on and left my teeth to soak overnight.

We used to listen to Triple J but over the past years have shied away from it.

I then moved to the popular commercial stations and am now hovering with the more local 'Easy Listening' and 'Family' stations (96.5 or 97.3) or my own CD's.

What is the world coming to ?

I have the JJJ Hottest 100 CDs up to about number 6 or 7... then it all went downhill as far as I'm concerned. Actually, it all went downhill when 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy' got number 1 and was also being played on the Top 40 charts. Crossover had begun.... ahhhh, the good 'ole days when JJJ was original....

We wake up to 3AK now.... :o and mostly listen to Gold 104 in the car.

I know I don't come here much any more, and my opinions therefore don't carry much weight, but Sopoli, please rest easy. You are not yet lost forever. Not until you listen to Macca in the Morning on Sundays. As I have been known to do.

(dorothy ...... haa!! - I didn't know there was a number plate game??? - I wanna play!!! does that make me a fully fledged OCSC?? )

Your opinion is always welcome, especially after that confession. That is a huge call.

Up until yesterday I resisted listening to Macca. Macca drives me insane. My father and eldest brother listen to Macca (they travel around the country a fair bit so that explains it), so that was enough to keep my away.

However, yesterday I listened to Macca and thought, 'Oh, it is not really that bad'.

Where will it end?

Veve - this caller's reasoning was that men will see the nude man, their thoughts will inevitably turn to sex and then they will look for a women to 'take'. You could hear the host trying not to laugh at the poor fool. The next caller gets on and says 'I was at the game when the streaker got caught. If you saw him the last thing on your mind would be sex.'

Dear Goddess of COSCness. I must tender my resignation to the COSC club. I attempted to make custard today and it ended up with a smokey flavour, even the dog wouldn't eat it!

Mags, Mags, Mags.

What can I say............ I have told you about smoking in the kitchen, it is a filthy habit. Smoke butts in food is not a good look.

Do COSC's have to be good cooks? Isn't part of aging just resigning yourself to the fact that you can't do everything, and you do the best with what is available at the supermarket or deli.

As long as you don't serve store bought custard out the carton, I think you should first decant it into your best tupperware serving jug.

  sorry I had to laugh at that comment.

I've never played anything else in the car except the radio so dd doesn't know any different. I also don't take toys or books or anything else as she is a great traveller.

When the time comes which I am sure it will then I will add the entertainment factor.

I also listen to Merreck and Rosso, they make me laugh so much. DD loves the radio music so its all good.

Must say though I used to be a techno, dance freak and only last weekend we were driving home and they were playing a techno song. I had to change the channel it was driving me insane. I must be getting old:rolleyes:
