Help me please

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. My ds is now nine months old and since 8 weeks old he has gone to bed awake and drifted off to sleep by himself and slept through the night. The last two weeks he has been sick with middle ear infection and also teething so at night i have let him go to sleep on the couch with me. He goes down fine in the day time by himself but the last three nights i have tried to get him back in his routine by putting him to bed by himself and he just screams and screams for me. As soon as i lie down with him he goes to sleep. I love comforting him and there is nothing better than snuggles but i am worried that if i keep giving in it will always be this way for ever. what should i do i dont know how to get him back in his routine and i dont want to upset him.:o

just a question, is he still sick?? he still might be feeling a little offish after the infection. if he is then i wouldn't worry about it too much. he just needs his mummy. if he's all better (off the meds etc), then it might be worthwhile trying to get him back into his routine. it shouldn't take too long or be overly traumatic as you said he's been sleeping by himself all his little life. he'll fall back in quickly enough. at least, i hope he does.
