I would like to move to Darwin, but just a little worried.

I heard renting in Darwin is more expensive than Sydney?

I think it is pretty expensive to rent up here but you do get some extras (tax breaks and extra holidays and usually more $$$ in wages)
My DH is in the Navy so we don't worry about the rent (thank you DHA- never thought I'd say that) but have a look on some real estate websites it will give you an idea of what to expect it depends on where you would want to live too.
The cost of living is a bit higher up here hence the higher wages (most jobs anyway I believe) and fuel is more too (it is down to $1.61 ATM which is lots cheaper than previous weeks.
But in saying that We love it you can't beat the weather (if you like the heat) and the thunder storms in summer ar fantastic!!! there are some great services and the public libraries have great things for kids.
I would consider a visit before up and moving tho esp with a little bub.
Good luck and  from the 30 odd degree heat

My sister and fiancee have just rented a standard 3 brm house with dbl garage and courtyard in one of the nicer areas for $660 a WEEK. Having said that, the weather is supposed to be great and the summer storms are fantastic. I suppose you have to weigh these things up.

I lived there when I was a teenager, after living in Sydney. It was a lot safer, though I hear that isn't necessarily the case now.
Its the humidity that will be hard to cope with, not the heat. If you wear glasses, get used to them fogging up every time you leave the airconditioning.
Rent and living costs might be higher, but when I went to Kormilda College (private high school) the fees were only about $2500 per year! Don't know if you prefer private or if you're thinking that long term yet.
Mum tells me that the vacancy rate is very low at the moment which pushes up prices. Check out www.realestate.com.au (http://www.realestate.com.au).

oh i miss darwin. I'll never miss the heat/humidity but the lifestyle, culture, access to bushland and thunderstorms are fantastic. Dry season bush fires can be hard on asthmatics though. Have you been up there yet? you should visit before deciding. It's a big culture change from anywhere else I've lived.
