continue in stocking stitch till you have the leg the length you like
either do seed stitch or rib for 2 rows to stop the leg from rolling up.

I am at the split leg part and I have knitted 70 stitches and put the other 70 stitches on a stitch holder.

I feel as though the shaping is incorrect as because you knit this as one piece I am only shaping one side of the leg. I am knitting what would be the LEFT leg now and the centre where the legs are split has no shape- so it looks like there is just a split on the work, no shaping. So, when bubs walks in these wouldn't his legs rub together or something?

Am I doing it right by decreasing stitches at the beginning of the row? Not at the middle (where I would assume I would be decreasing stitches, but that would be at the begging of a purl row).

AND

I notice that the other leg follows the same pattern which I assume would have the decreasing stitches starting at the middle of the work (ie between the legs- at the split for the other leg).

AM I MAKING SENSE?? what would you do in this situation? Just adjust the pattern?

I have asked the writer of the pattern for help, but haven't heard back and I really want to get them finished so I can start some other patterns.

From what I'm reading there you're shaping on both sides if you follow the pattern. I've never made longies before but have made knitted overalls and they coming a bit at the hip and in the leg. That would makes sense in a longies pattern because of the shaping to be semi fitted round the nappy. Does that make sense?

Most of all I am confused about decreasing stitches on different sides for each leg. Do you think I should just keep going and then unpick if it doesn't work?

They are knitted in one piece so you assemble them by folding the outside in and the front has a centre seam then you would sew each leg together.

Sorry, it is a home-made pattern by someone on another site and I can't get any questions answered so far. Maybe I'll just keep trying..

Sorry Dh got me very distracted and we went for a drive mid sentence:laughing:

OK sounds like its shaping it so that the back of the longies is a bit bigger than the front to allow for the bulk of the nappy if that makes sense. What will happen when you sew it together is like you'd see when you sew a normal pair of pants. The crotch line is closer to the front but when on sits in the middle IYKWIM!!

I'm going to see if I can finish them tonight and I will see how they go. I will report back
