I just purchased my first six MDC napplies
I have six Bumgenious pocket nappies one size fits all

My first question is if i was to rinse them before putting them in the nappy bucket would it reduce the smell? my DP is not to keen on the whole idea

Also did anyone else have trouble convincing their DP that cloth may not be all that bad? he keeps insisting that if bub is in cloth nappies there is no way he will change him  not that he would anyways.

What detergent is the best to use?

Does anyone else use bumgenious and are you happy with the absorbancy?

Sorry about all the question but am new to the whole MDC's ;)

By MDC do you mean MCN?

I haven't used bumgenius. But I have heard good things about them.

Detergent I use Omo Sensitive. Just use what you normally use (but not the biological ones like Biozet I think )

Use 1/3 to 1/2 your normal amount of detergent. I find doing an extra rinse at the end really helps get all those suds out.

Smell - yes you can rinse. Maybe a "little squirt" would suit you. It's an attachment on your toilet pipe that you use to hose the nappies into te toilet before pailing them.

I don't use one and don't find the smell bad at all if you wash every second day. I use flushable liners so we don't have poo issues.

I had trouble with my DH at first until I realised that it was more fear of the unknown than resistance. Once he realised that they go on like sposies, he was fine with them. You just have to give a demo and make sure "NO nappy cream" gets drilled into their heads

No one can post any nappy sites on here - I suggest you have a cruise through the directory and see if there are some you like.

My personal favourites are the magicalls from Baby Beehinds and they come in minkee now. But you will find it's very much trial and error as to what suits your bubs.

Most MCN recommend to be dry-pailed. where you just rinse them off and put them in a dry bucket.

Usually a pre-soak before the wash itself is enough to get rid of any smells etc. They recommend you only use half your usual dose of washing powder/liquid. I use a liquid, but also chuck in some eucy oil too. Smells great when they are dry

You can get printed nappies from Green Kids, they are funtimes nappies and mostly used during the day. Their plain coloured ones are best for over night use.

Good luck :)

DH loves cloth nappies, mostly cos they cost less than sposies. As long as they're all ready to go we have no issues. For liners I bought some microfleece & cut that up, the poo comes of really easily with the little squirt. Our nappy bucket lives outside in the laundry so there's no smells in the house. For detergents steer clear of ones with softner as it reduces their absorbency. Bleaches are also a bad idea as it can ruin the PUL.

I like the Earth Choice liquid - works really well on ours, and cheap.

I'm sure your DP will come around to the idea when he gets used to it! I don't bother with the rinsing and I find the smell to be fine - I think the smell of a day's worth of disposables to be much worse, personally. Just get a nappy bucket with a tight-fitting lid. You can rinse if you want though!

With my 1st 2 babies I used towelling flats and I used to put the wet nappy straight into a bucket of water & vinegar. Pooey one's I'd rinse then put into the bucket. With our 3rd baby I read about dry pailing so decided to give it a go and I am really surprised at the lack of smell! I drop the wet nappy straight into the buck - no rinsing etc. Again the pooey naps get a rinse 1st before going into the bucket.

I have 2 buckets, both with a firm lid that seals in any smell. When I used to use water & vinegar by day 2 it would get quite smelly when the lid was opened, but with the dry pailing it doesn't get very smelly at all - yes there is a bit of a smell when you take the lid of and tip them into the washing machine, but it's over and done with very quickly.

I have just purchased a couple of Itti Bitti AIO nappies and am really happy with them - I find that there is no difference between a wet one of these and a wet disposable which should suit your husband. He might not like changing the pooey ones but if you use a flushable liner it wouldn't be much different to a disposable.

I use Herbon washing powder, it's supposedly biodegradable and I buy a 20kg bucket which lasts me ages - you don't need to use much in a wash, 1/3 scoop.

I used to use nappisan with by 1st 2 babies but have found that if you hang any stained nappy on the line in the sun it bleaches it clean within a day.

Goodluck with convincing your hubby hopefully once he sees the MCN is use he'll be converted!

Haha, convincing DH was a challenge in itself for me. I bought a 6 pack of itti bitti d'lish, (which may be what you r looking for in the cute department), DH was sold when he caught her standing on the side of the bath in a bright pink itti. aww so cute!!
