Well - in honour of real nappy week, and in order to take advantage of the great sale at green kids I have just ordered 8 pocket nappies.......I figure that with one in nappies and one on the way I will save hundreds, plus the environment and if it turns out that I just can't handle cloth they appear to have good resale!

So thanks to all who introduced me to the concept with such enthusiasm - even though I didn't make it to the gathering in Brisbane yesterday!

I got one of each available at the moment - rose, lilac, baby blue, butter, white, green, yellow and sage.

So - what else will I need...some microfleece for liners, a bucket with an airtight lid in order to dry pail, maybe a groovy dilly bag to carry them in (although I might just use a shopping bag until I get the hang of it. Hmmm...if I buy into the addiction then a trip to spotlight might be in order - time to get the Bernina out), will wait and see if I need a little squirt - our laundry is next to the toilet.........anything else?? Of course I will be expecting a healthy dose of that smugness that everyone talks about.

I chatted to my mum about it before ordering and she said that she had been seeing events for RNW in NZ and after looking after my neice for 10 days a few weeks ago was very aware of the sheer bulk of the disposables so was very supportive. Now to convince DH....and to wait for baby beehinds to re-open!

hmm the local rep for BBeehinds seemed to think the the website would be open in two weeks??? I hope you can wait that long!!! (dont forget that beehinds need covers)

- oooh pretty pretty!! - there are lots of different places to buy wet bags from ... they are usually about $10 .. although bubbaearth sells PULwetbag kits for only about $5??? so if you have the machine out... you could make your own :D

umm microfibre for pockets... I also use hemp and a square of terry.. but everyone uses pockets differently..

a square of microfibre and a bit of hemp should be heaps!!!

- I dont have a little squirt... have always got by without one (others swear by them though)

yep i am now a converted nappy user too. however after finally convincing dh i have to wait a few weeks for funds to be available to buy the cloth nappies.

Jen you were saying about the green kids nappies. where do you get your microfleece liners from? and do you use them at night or the hemp ones?

:smiliedance: go cloth nappies!

i'm so glad we are making the conversion to cloth we ran out of huggies on friday so we are using all our fitteds and im loving it :D
cant wait for my clothy mail to arrive this week :smiliedance: i ordered 2 pocket nappies from ozebaby can anyone tell me how much to stuff them with for a heavy wetter and do i just use the boosters? i have hemp boosters already :)

hmm ok - billie and beth... you shouldn't need microfleece liners with the greens (I find everything just washes off the greens anyway...) BUT if you want some... you just go to spotlight... ask for microfleece.. buy 1/2 a metre and cut it up- no hemming needed as it doesn't fray..

UNLESS you are talking about MICROFIBRE - which I put INSIDE the pockets??? I get my microfibre from Big W in the laundry section - I but the house and home brand (I find it bigger and better :) ) - about $4 for three of them.. (note microfibre should never be against the baby's skin - it will dry the skin out...

microFLEECE lovely and soft on baby's bottom - keeps all moisture away .. microFIBRE tooo absorbant ... will dry baby's skin - needs to have another fabric on it...

I hope that makes sense :)

Jessgray - what nappy did you get from ozebaby??? which store?? - if you let me know I'll try to help you boost it..

Hooray for Draught! Another cloth convert. Mind you, I have a huge stash of cloth nappies and still haven't actually tried them on a baby's bum yet, but I figure as long as I never let a disgustable enter the house, I will never know any different. :D

I haven't got any green kids though. I think I might have to try those next (after she arrives!)

thanks jen

i did mean the microfibre that you stuff the pockets with. do you need to cut it up or just use the whole one and fold it. and is the terry next to the outside or the inside pocket part of the nappy? i mean ( in the pocket) microfibre on top then the terry so the terry is next to the pul ? or is it the other way around.

sorry for being such a pain asking all these q's.

oh and 1 of my friends can't wait for me to get some too so she can look and hopefully covert too! :smiliedance:

Now that I've actually managed to buy some Microfibre cloths I'll take the liberty of answering this one ;)

If you have a cloth you just fold it up, and if you buy it buy the metre you'll need to cut it and hem it. I put the mfibre so it is next to the bub's bum (with fleece in between) and then I have hemp behind it. Apparently the order it goes in isn't a really big deal though. Today I just wrapped the mfibre around the hemp before stuffing the pocket and it seemed ok (except that I forgot to change the nappy before it was totally soaked including the outside  but that was my own fault :) ).

So long as the microfibre does not touch the childs skin. It will dry it out really badly.

Confession time - despite posting this about converting back in April I actually didn't use my cloth nappies....until yesterday. I haven't tried them on my toddler at all (it was all too hard with other things happening in my life) - but now have used them on my new baby and am happy with the decision! I have some green kids from my April purchase and my baby beehinds trial pack arrived today, so it looks like my stash will start to grow now that I have used them for two days and the sky hasn't fallen in!!

What BB's did you get? bamboo or hemp?

draught

One of each of the BB's to try them out.
I have been looking at the sales too.....
Now to see if I can convince my toddler to try them out:rolleyes:

That is awesome even if it took you a while! Better late than never.
And CONGRATS on the birth of your son

Yes, better late than never!! Although I agree with Charmzy, how did you have them sitting there? I am like a child at Christmas with putting the new cloth on bub!

Congratulations on the birth of your LO!!

Thanks. I can report that I have now tried them on my 2 year old and, despite dire warnings from friends that it would never work (part of my reason for not trying earlier) she was fine with it and was very proud of showing off her "special blue nappy". So I got online and took advantage of the sales and have ordered more Greenkids and more baby beehinds.......so I guess I am hooked!

Heheh.. you could get her to pick out which nappy she wants to wear... better than plain old disposables!!

Great time to buy more nappies too! You have to post piccies! :D

draught

I had a very sad eldest child this evening - until she saw the funny side of it - SHE decided that she needed to wear one of these cool nappies too (she still has a night nappy) and was most disappointed that it was too small...she tried to convince both me and herself that she could wear it - until she started to walk and then she burst out laughing as it really was just too small for her. But it does show that the whole family has embraced the new concept (well....except DH who is away at the moment - that will be the true test!!)

T you can get larger nappies for her that she can use as her special nite time nappy !
