I've been making my own wipe solution up for a little while now...
Boiled water
Sorbolene solution (small amount)
Johnson baby wash(small amount)

Was going great, however the last couple of batches I'm finding that the water is going slimey. Any ideas why?

You would be better off having the solution in a squrity bottle and wetting the wipes one at a time. Slime will happen otherwise, I found out the hard way. I would ditch the Johnsons too, full of nasties. :barf:

I can't help trouble shoot your recipe, but I am finding just straight cooled chamomile tea is easy and fantastic.

I just use chamomile as well, used to use sorbelene and water but much prefer chamomile now.

Could it be that you're taking too long to use it all? Cant think of anything else sorry!

I either use plain water or chamomile.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Just a quick question, when you say Chamomile, is it essential oil or tea bags?

Weak tea ;) To be honest, I always just used water. Wet in in the bathroom as needed.

Just make up some tea as needed.
Im like Carlia i only do it when i can be bothered :o
As ive found that Brauers do a natural nappy rash cream which is my saviour for when the bum gets red raw tis great stuff !
But honestly the red bum has more to do with food than anything else using just water hasnt made any difference to how his skin reacts so dont worry about fussing all the time :)

I never thought of doing that, what do you wipe with? I usually buy aldi wipes.

I make a whole pot of chamomile tea with just a teaspoon of loose chamomile, strain it, and pour it into a lunchbox full of folded face washers. The face washers I then wash with my cloth nappies, so no extra effort.

For out and about, I use chux cut into quarters, and moistened with the chamomile tea, squeezed out, and put into one of those Huggies flat packs I had hanging around after #2.

DS has had no redness at all since we swapped from water to chamomile tea. Before that, he would get quite red for no apparent reason.

J - I use facewashers i got really cheap from Best & Less on special because i also swapped to cloth nappies they get washed with his nappies so no dramas & they are so much better at cleaning up poos ! You know how you struggle with fifty nappy wipes to get them clean well pretty much 2 wipes with the face cloth & your done ! I use these for when we are out also & fold them up into the wet bag with the nappy once we are done ! Very very easy

oooh, the whole concept sounds icky to me, but i'm all for saving money wherever i can! So, how would i go about cleaning them if i don't use cloth nappies? And doesn't it smell if you're out for a while? Thanks for the advice, this all-natural world is oh so intriguing to me;)

Well you could always put the level down on your washing machine so you do a small wash but that isnt exactly water wise personally i would be quite happy to throw them in the wash with our other towels just making sure you get any chunky residue off LOL !

I use plain water these days :) When I'm keen or DS has a bit of a red bottom, this is the general recipe I use:
* water or chammomile tea
* a bit of cold pressed oil (like olive or sweet almond) or some Vegesorb (just helps to lubricate and makes it easier to clean up messes)
* a drop of lavendar essential oil for it's skin soothing properties (but never use if the the skin is broken)

For going out, I just take a dry wipe these days and wet from a water bottle if necessary. In the early days with more frequent changes, I would store pre-moistened wipes in a Glad Ziplock bag so that they were ready to use any time and still small and easy to take out.
