Hi to all you lovely kiwi expats. I am in need of some great advice. We are flying to Christchurch at the end of October and then driving to Nelson the following day. Our flight gets in at midnight so we are picking up our rental car and would like to find a cheap motel near the airport for the night and also for one night whe we fly out.

I dont know Christchurch at all so was wondering of anyone knew the area and where the cheapest accomodation might be??

Any help would be great.

Mum says The Sudima, it's 'cheap but not bad', is 5 minutes walk from the airport and has a restaurant.

We stayed with these guys for the same purpose. Very friendly, very cheap, they run a free shuttle as well :D

Are you serious? We're going to Chch around that time too and I wasn't expecting snow!!

We're heading north to Nelson way though so hopefully be warmer up there - keep reading all about the 'city of sunshine' so it had better live up to it!

Nelson weather is much nicer than down here, it's been pretty gross everywhere lately though so fingers crossed it clears up!!! :fingerscrossed::babydust2::babydust2::babydust2:

No, not from Nelson - just going for another holiday! DH is from NZ and we've seen just about all of it except for Marlborough Sounds area so looking forward to it!

We're going in November - doing a loop from Chch to Hanmer Springs, Murchison, Motueka, Nelson, Kaikoura then back to Chch. Can't wait!!

Am looking forward to Abel Tasman and wine country the most!! ;)

Oh hope you have a great time. The sounds are lovely we are lucky that we have a whole bay down there that belongs to the family and I cant wait to show Ds the land for the first time.

Enjoy your trip who knows we may even pass each other on the journey.

We may just do that! I'll tie a pink ribbon to my day pack!

So I take it you are from Nelson? If you are you may be able to help me - We had 2 lots of accommodation picked out but they are both booked - must be good! So back to the drawing board...........Is it nicer to stay at Tahunanui Beach than in town, or is it more convenient to be in town and just visit the beach? We have two kids 10 & 7 so will be doing lots of touristy things. Decisions, decisions....:laughing:

Thanks!

Thanks!

My partner grew up there, I lived there for three years and my family is there. I am from Invercargill right at the bottom of the south and where the real cold is lol. What are the names of accomodation that you have chosen???

I have a good friend in Invercargill -she grew up in Dunedin and they spent some time for her DH work in Gore - now that's cold! They're soon moving up to Alex so should be nicer.

We wanted to stay at The Captain's Quarters in the Wheelhouse Inn or at an apartment in Trafalgar St. They're the ones that are booked. The only others we are looking at so far are Beachside Villas in Golf Rd, Spinnakers on Wakefield Quay or Fountain Resort in Green st - kids like this one cause it has a flying fox

From what I can work out on the net everything is pretty central so doesn't really matter, we'll have a car anyway! Just thought there might be some 'local inside knowledge' ;) It all looks really beautiful though

Thanks for your help!! :D

Too be honest the only one I have heard of is the beach side. We have been gone six years so may be new?? Hope you find something, I am sure that you will.
